Stop drinking blood. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you. People have different internal clocks, and some are more naturally night people. I get more done and feel more rested if I work from evening until morning and then sleep to early afternoon, even if I don't have to. My most productive hours are about 3-6am, but not if I get up at that time.

If you're waking up at a normal time and just can't sleep at a normal time, some things they say are not to look at screens like a computer phone or tablet before you sleep. And don't drink a lot of water right before going to bed. Good luck.

Most sleep problems which aren't a mental health issue (e.g. stress) are caused by blue light wavelengths from laptops, phones and television. This artificial light breaks our bodies internal biological clocks which tells us it is time to go to sleep. Try reading a book or magazine instead for that last hour before going to sleep.

If I have enough time off I start sleeping until noon and going to sleep at 3-4am. Alcohol tends to hasten the process, enable it even. Dunno but forcing yourself to get up at 8am, bit of physical exercise helps greatly. Go for a run, say 5km, should help immensely.

@lachlan and I are in the same boat. In the past when I was between jobs or working evenings, my natural sleep time was 4 am.

These days I've been working 7 or 8am for the past 8 years. I'm used to it, but I am often short on sleep. I started taking a melatonin 20 minutes before bed about a year ago and it at least helps me fall asleep. (I still head to bed too late -- evenings are my only me time.)

I also started taking supplements containing melatonin, valerian and magnesium an hour before bed, it has greatly helped me with my insomnia, falling asleep much faster and no more waking up randomly in the middle of the night and not being able to fall asleep anymore.

I feel the same about me time. The kids go to bed about 8pm and I relax half way. The missus goes to bed about 11pm and then I relax completely into the sofa until I go up to bed about 2am. Sweet blissful silence.

One bonus of going to bed late and getting up early is I fall asleep in seconds now.

I'm looking forward to more material I can line my bird cage with and paper train the puppy.
