How drastic are the frame cuts in some of the NGCD games?

Any game made after 96 had them.
They are VERY hard to notice, they dont effect the gameplay either.

Unless you've played the games in the arcade, I doubt you'll notice much. Though it sucks not being able to taunt in Last Blade 2 and having only one (Some have two) victory pose. Also if you've visited one of those sprite rip sites, you'll notice frame cuts and what not (Kagami's cloak isn't too fluid and that's how I found out about some of the missing victory poses). The only noticeable cuts I've noticed are in speech/voices.

well the frame cut king is AOF 3 on cd. Reduced sprite size and frame cuts. What I notice more though is in the ss3 and ss4 where the voice samples were cut for hanzo and a few other I beleive when doing the moves.

So is the Neo Geo CD worth it. All I ever hear is bad stuff about the system and it's games and such. Please start a thread that gives us all the good stuff about the CD.

Well the music is great on CD, you get extras sometimes like Metal Slug Gallery&Combat School, and it's fairly inexpensive. But some games are altered because of Ram limits on what the CD system can hold at one time. And some games don't suffer from loading times being a distraction but some suffer GREATLY. So it's a tossup really. The CD system does not have the strengths of the AES or MVS being that you are getting the real arcade experience at home. But the CD system is a nice extra to have and is much closer to the true Neo Geo experience than anything else out there, emulators or even translations for other systems. Haven't seen MOTW or LB2 for Dreamcast yet though.

P.S. just an IMHO and I do like the Neo CD, but I like AES much more. <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0">

Yes and No. Its worth it if you want to play the older games or the non-fighting games, even recent ones like Metal Slug 2 ('98). For fighting games, especially the ones that came out after 1993, its definitely a poor choice. The loading between rounds really turned me off from playing those games.

Overall, its a poorman's substitute for MVS or the home system but its not totally devoid of redeeming qualities. If you can find the system cheap for $100, its not a bad investment as it will provide a few months of entertainment with these games:

Magician Lord
NAM 1975
Metal Slug 1/2
Blue's Journey
Top Hunter
Aero Fighter 2/3
Viewpoint
Baseball Stars 1/2
Futsal
League Bowling
Magical Drop II
Super Sidekicks 2

There are a few others like Pulstar and Twinkle Star Sprites but these games are hard to get and consequently expensive. Good luck with your decision.

Metal Slug 1 CD has some cuts in it, and here are a couple I've noticed:

1) The arrow signs don't judder as you get near them.

2) You don't hear "MISSION 1... START!".
