Ok I am not trying to offend you but since you even pointed out your a newb fixing that board yourself would be over your head. There are a number of people on this board who can fix that board but most like me do not have a lot of spare time because of how fast we are overwhelmed.

Channelmaniac is the go to guy in your situation but I heard he may be taking a break due to being burnt out, pm him and ask.

Your looking in the wrong place btw. Bad traces near the battery is associated with the cross hatch of death. What you have is a graphic problem. Can the board still register carts. Was the board ever working right.

The board is repairable but you need to farm out the job. 1 slots do use 12 volts and yes you can just drop a 1 slot mobo in the neo cab

You may want to check to make sure all harddips are off. Like mainman said what you have there is a graphic issue. It seems the system is fetching incorrect tiles but does not affect every address. It may point to a bad trace on the RAM or something in relation to pulling tiles from ROM

thanks a lot for the response razoola - mainman
yeah something is wrong with the video definitely
but it also has the cross hatch of death..
anyway i bought a 1 slot for 50 dollars on ebay i dont think
channelmaniac was going to charge me less than that to fix it
it had more issues even before this happened so iguess
it was time to put that board away for good ... ill keep the board for parts ..
tanks for the info mainman i didnt know i could plug the 1 slot board into the big red ill do it when the
board arrives
..... thanks again

The 4 slot is worthy of repair instead of the axe.

First off, if you want to put a 1-slot Neo Geo MVS into a cabinet that had a 4-slot Neo Geo MVS you should know the 1-slot boards are wired to the JAMMA standard while multislot boards are wired to the (slightly different) MVS standard. The main difference is the sound hookups and I think the service/test switch pins. It is possible to damage the sound amplifier if you connect a JAMMA board to an MVS harness or a MVS board to a JAMMA harness (some people say that one of these is safe and the other is not and I can never remember which). Make sure you know the difference between MVS and JAMMA and make the adjustments (or get an adapter).

Regarding you 4-slot, I think you must have a unibois in there because that does not look like a stock BIOS. I am not very familiar with the unibios, but on the color bars it looks like it is trying to tell you:

RED GREEN BLUE WHITE

but it is instead telling you

SEE GSEEO CMUE WII(can't see the rest)

half the letters are correct and half the letters are off by one (R->S,N->O,L->M,H->I). It looks like lowest order bit on the text address bus is stuck high so that all the "even" numbered letters (address ending in 0) get rounded up to the next "odd" numbered letter (address ending in 1). Since you know the problem is on an address line and it is the lowest bit that should make it pretty easy to find with a logic probe.

If you do plan to put a 1 slot in the cab, make sure you get one that can do both jamma and MVS audio like the MV1, MV1F, MV1FS and I think the MV1T.
