I disagree with a lot of what you said, FS. About the water thing: you retain water because you're not getting enough of it. Much like you store fat if you don't keep your metabolism up. Your body thinks it won't get any water, and therefore stores it. So that logic is backwards. Too much? Sure, you an get too much of anything, but MOST people don't drink enough. I don't think America's number one issue for fitness is how people drink too much.... water.
Certain types of chips and pretzels are fine. They are NOT as bad as fries (lots of carbs dipped in faty grease), but they aren't "healthy". It's good to nibble on food throughout the day, and I use low sodium, fat free pretzels to do just that. My BF% is 6.5 right now, so I think it's okay.
As for hurting after a workout. You won't hurt a ton, like you did when you first started, but you WILL hurt if you do enough. Not too much, but enough. I do agree with stretching before hand, but you are breaking down muscle tissue and you're releasing acids into your muscles from working out. You're supposed to hurt. You're breaking your muscles down, and therefore some pain is going to happen if you're doing it right. I don't get this next thing you said:
You're doing your body more harm than good by destroying it and letting it "repair".
WHAT? That's what weight lifting is all about. You have to let your body heal. You're making micro tears in muscle tissue, and you must rest.
