I'd be down for a Lynx+

Great system.

I had the Lynx day one. California Games and Warbirds. Some little shit nieghbor kid broke the DC port! 6 AA batteries got expensive.

This requires some reading between the lines and blind faith, but one of the admins over at AtariAge dropped a pretty big hint about a Lynx+:

If there is anything to it, it seems to be in the AES+ style rather than the 2600/7800+, which would be a big win. The reason it carries weight is that AtariAge is owned by Atari, so he is likely an employee.

I'd buy one. I still have a bunch of games, although I haven't had a working Lynx in a while.

I assume the Atari 2600+ went the emulation route due to the cost analysis? Too simple to really justify any sort of FPGA simulation hardware, too old to buy modern IC chips for it to build a board from scratch, and too low of potential demand to justify the increase cost of a more premium hardware reproduction.

I like the 2600, but I find it hard to want to run out and get another one.

I wonder if anyone entertained the idea of anything other than emulation at the time. It's just what everyone did.

Some of those earlier drug store Atari Flashback's were NES-on-a-chip.

They absolutely are.

Just play their Galagon (Galaga) and RobotWar 2684 (Robotron), bought it on release back then when Atariage still sold those unlicensed ports and they're nothing less than amazing. RobotWar has become one of my fav off-broadway Robotron versions, and that's coming from someone who has loads and loads of Robotron-esque twin stick shooters of all shapes and sizes.

Oh, and do yourself a favour and also try Juno First. The title music alone is worth the purchase
