I just read Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth... and Other Stories a few weeks ago. I think his stuff is OK, nothing great. I got a kick out of how anal he was with his rights. Every mention of his name in the book had a rights reserved symbol after it. Kinda telling that he had to augment his fame from writing with fame from being an asshole. Either way, he was prolific.

I've read a number of his short stories over the years (usually in anthologies) and I generally enjoyed his stuff. "A Boy and His Dog" is particularly memorable to me. 84 is a good run and he churned out an amazing amount of material in that time.

Big ideas, big ego and fiercely opinionated. A respectable wordsmith, if nothing extraordinary. But he definitely contributed some of the most memorable sci-fi in history with a strong foundation in concepts and themes. R.I.P.
