I think somebody tried to make a thread about that not too long ago. I think English wasn't their first language though, and nobody could figure out what the hell they were saying. :conf:

Well, to get around the TATE barrier, you could prop it on its side and plug in a USB joypad(like you can with the GP2X)...but that kind of thing really detracts from the portability.

I'm pretty happy with how the Final Burn automatically switches the orientation and button layout for vert games on the GP2X. It's like TATE for dummies.:tickled:

Yeah, tate wouldn't work on that at all; one of the major things I love about the PSP. That thing just looks like a DS with a keyboard in place of the second screen... although I guess it's way more powerful.

Well, I have to say...so far the GP2X has met everything I expected of it. I wanted a no-nonsense system for CPS1/2, shooters, a handful of other MAME stuff, and some SNES and PCE.

Even if the Pandora is technically more powerful, the stuff I want all runs fine if not near-perfect on the GP2X and proper Tate'ing is a huge plus.

That right there will keep me busy for quite a while. Now, I have a stack of PSP games that I've been buying and hoarding(even though I sold my PSP), so I suppose a new slim is in order at some point.

Nah, I mean about the handheld in general. It's around here somewhere. I think that thing looks pretty slick. I'd buy one.

Call me a nub, call me what you please, but I've never worried too much about having a tate screen on shooting games. Yeah, it's nice, but it's not a deal breaker for me if something doesn't have it.

The community making these emulators possible is what matters in this case. The GP2X definitely has a stronger ongoing community. The PSP on the other hand, sadly, seems to have been mostly forgotten. Nothing is really being updated. Most stuff works fine on it, but lack of MAME is a major mark against it. So for the Pandora, it's success all depends on acceptance and output by the community.

As for the tate issue, it really wouldn't matter if you were the type of person that didn't play mostly shooters. I play them almost exclusively on my PSP. The thought of playing a vert in yoko on such a small screen basically makes it unplayable as far as I'm concerned. If it weren't for the emulation, I honestly would have never bought my PSP.

Don't get me wrong, probably about 90% of what I play is shooting games.

I guess on PSP, when I had one, I mostly played yoko games anyway. On a cab, or a decent size TV, though, it doesn't really matter one way or the other to me.

I wouldn't say forgotten, but more like it gets put on hold. Sony is still out to brick all the modded systems. And it's not cool to make a prog that may be obsoleted.

I think the best scenario for me is a PSP without CFW and a GP2X...that way I don't have to worry about the firmware stuff.

Yea, more than half of the games I emulate are shmups. I actually like to have the PCB for playing at home when I can afford it and the ROM for on-the-go.

I'm actually getting used to using the GP2X dpad(unmodded) for shooters. Not ideal, but I'm learning to adapt. I still think I'll pick up one of those d-pad stick on things though.

There is a port of mame that is availale for the gp2x. I guess its been reprogrammed for the psp but it takes MAME romset 0.34 wich is a smaller set, if ayone can help me locate old 0.34 lmk.

Bumping this thread...has anyone tried the newest version of Temper(PCE/CD)??
It's fantastic on the GP2X...runs bin/cue and iso of CD ROM games at full speed right out of the box. No tweaking or optimization required with the ones that I've tried.

I had Gate of Thunder running perfectly last night. Wow...one of the best handheld emulators I've ever used.

How is the PCE/CD emulation on PSP?

Just as a heads up, according to GBAX (official UK distributor), the GP2X is no longer manufactured.

I just noticed this because it got bumped again...

I messed with this for a while on PSP last month with mixed results. Some games work fine, but most have sound and/or graphical issues (mostly just sound). I've got a handful of shooters I keep around for it that work well enough to play. Also, they seem to work better with the Japanese PCE emu called PCEP as opposed to the HuE emulator.

There should be another machine coming from GamePark Holdings soonish. GBAX leaked the news of the discontinuation early (to both stop further orders and to try to promote their own Pandora device), the new machine was supposed to be announced at the same time as the fact that GP2Xs are no longer being made was.

Kind of, though the rumours about that from a year ago were mostly made up. Nobody is sure what the new system will be until it is announced.

I agree that the gp2x emulating community is much better than the psp at this point.

Can't wait to see it. Until then, the F200 is keeping me pretty busy. The system needs few improvements, IMHO...mostly the input hardware. They need to fix the damn dpad already.

Some slightly faster tech under the hood would be great...the GP2X can already emulate a PSX, albeit pretty poorly. The real ace in the hole would be if the new system could emulate a PSP.
