got my cps3 third strike... why's nothign happening?

I've got a black screen. I've got the mother board, the simms, the cd drive, the cd the cart... all plugged in. No picture. No nothing. What's wrong here? I've got two mobos, but are doing nothing. THe CD is a burn... could that be the problem? Anyone care to tell me where I could find a third strike to burn? Need help!!!

Try reinserting the cart a few times. There's no problem with using a burned CD...if it was a problem, the screen would prompt you to use the proper CD. I don't think its a dead cart...usually you get a garbled screen if that was the case. But yeah try the cart a few more times, cause I've had the same problem as you, and reinserting the cart fixed it.

I'll do that a few times.... if not, then what? Ram? This mobo's ram was able to run SF3 TS before. If the ram was not configured well, would it not tell me? For that matter, I can't even get into the test menu. I'll try jiggling the cart a bit.

That didn't do it. In, out, in just a bit like the NES days... hell, I even blew in it. I don't know. That can't be it. I don't understand what the problem is. I know for a fact it's not the cab or the jamma. Power's going to the CD, no death screen (yet). What gives?

have you tried leaving it on for a while? A while back an old buddy told me that SF3ts needs to load up on it's first time and took like a half an hour. He got one that the guy thought was broken for like $40 and took it home, turned it on, and went to McDonalds Came back and it was working.

Don't own cps3 stuff myself, but that's what I was told.

dont really have any tech-tips, but have you tried the old "eraser on the connectors" trick.. MANY a time have i thought MVSes were broken only to have them working perfectly by using this cleaning technique...

It's been mentioned in a few cps3 FAQ's too...

And, remember that when you load each game, you load it into the CPS3 memory before playing it....... Every time you switch the game in the CPS3 Hardware, you have to wait 30 minutes for the game to load up.

That witch doctor method didn't work... I know you have to let it load up, but you get a screen showing it's loading.... furthermore, I tried it anyhow... the CD stopped running all together. What was loading when the CD's not even moving? So that's not it. What should I clean this with? I'm so fucking frustrated....

Sorry your stuff isn't working. I understand the frustration as I have been in that spot with other systems (sega mega-tech ) and nothing seemed to work

I know it's NOT the battery and NOT the CD.... and NOT the motherboard. lol... WTF. I'm going to clean the simms now (which look clean as hell) and also the cart... if this doens't work, someone kill me.

if you have pure alcohol thats fine, but some alcohol based cleaning fluids sometimes contain oil which can leave a thin film on the connectors and thus prevent contact.

your best bet is just using any old eraser that you have lying around, works great for cleaning this sort of stuff...

Well... I'm back. Yeah, if I'm here, that means I'm not playing third strike. Damn thing still won't show a screen.

Here's what pisses me off the most: I get NOTHING. No boot up screen, no error screen. The most facinating thing that happnes is when I pull the cart out while it's still on, then I got some little white garbles here and there... put the cart back in, BLACK again. SHIT!

I've had that happen with a power instinct board. It's possible that it got dropped during shipping or something. I would make sure all the little pins on the board are ok. If there is one bad connection the whole board could be crap.

Not possible. I've got TWO of them...and one worked great until I tried to do my own battery change. One is proven working. I can't stand this shit anymore. I spent a ton of money on this, and nobody knows how to help. I'm so damn upset.

How do I adjust voltage? This is my next step as someone here said that was an issue. I tried this in my other machine and it didn't work on that one, either.

Usually there is a little knob, or adjustment screw on the power supply that you can turn that will increase or decrease the +5 volt rail.


Be very carefull with this. I would suggest getting a multimeter and measuring the voltage first to ensure what it is currently set it. Its possible the voltage is something like 4.6 volts (or whatever) and thats just not enough to power up the board.


Also measure the 12 volt while you are at it.

Just about every modern arcade psu that I have seen has this ability. But be cautious with it.
