Looks decent, nice work. How much a spray job like that cost?

Paid more than what I got quoted but I think it came out to be about $450 not including the parts from my other 2 cabs that I needed done that I never got around to.

So update on the monitors and chassis.

When I purchased this I was told one of the two chassis were recapped, turns out neither were recapped. Shadowkn came over and helped me out with my working Super Neo and we set about testing everything to see what works and what needed work. One chassis worked but will definitely need a recap, the other one had a blown fuse and possible other problems. This may be the original chassis that NEgO was talking about.

Both tubes turn on and look good so I didn't end up getting a terrible deal for two nice looking tubes and one working chassis.

Now my next hurdle is to figure out what to do about this rust. Arcade restoration group seems to be split 50/50 on leaving it or doing something to it. Still need to paint a few parts and get a new control panel since this one is toasty. If anyone has a type 2 panel they got laying around let me know.

Try going to an automotive paint shop and ask them for a rust inhibitor. It'll slow the rust down tlfrom eating away at the metal plus it'll make the areas with rust nicer.

The most you want to possibly do for the rust is maybe a rust inhibitor. From what I read about those compression bands, they are under an incredible amount of pressure so don’t grind or sand. I picked up a couple of tubes from the trash while in Okinawa and they had the same rust. I just let it be and the tubes are still going strong. Besides, its not visible once in the cabinet.

Came out good. I am surprised you didn't Bondo it for a smoother finish before painting but as long as the metal is solid all looks well.

They're under that much pressure?! Impressive. I always wondered how the hell this steel wraparound actually held the tube.

What was the decision on the monitor vs the rust? Fascinating thread, keep up the hard and great work!

Since I don't have an original power supply I found a Sega power supply that is perfect for Naomi for $25 plus shipping at one of my sources. Works great, had it recapped by Shadowkn.

Some progress on some of the rusted parts. I started by using some rust gel but it didn't give me the results quick enough for the amount used. These parts were too rusty. I then switched to a muriatic acid bath. If anyone is trying to do this method you'll have to be careful. The muriatic acid is fantastic for removing rust. However, you can't leave anything in there for too long as it will eat it up.

Another thing is that if you pull it out of the acid you have to neutralize the acid right away otherwise it will flash rust. My method of doing this was dunking the part in another pool of water mixed with sodium bicarbonate which is baking soda. After dunking it in that I wiped it down right away so that the water wouldn't rust right away. There was varying success here since I wasn't able to get into some of the crevices.

To seal the metal I used a satin clear coat. The parts where there were still moisture rusted a little under the coat but it shouldn't spread more than this. Either way, miles better than what it was.

Now it just needs a few more things and it'll be totally ready to go. Some things I still need to do are get a new control panel (if you have a Hyper 64 panel let me know), repaint some of the plastic parts like bezels and marquee, put on new side art, and of course, put it all together.
