Since you have an MVS machine, why not go for some of the Neo Geo offerings?

robocop 2- no idea, not really worth it to me
final fight -$100
knights of the round - not sure
cadillacs and dinosaurs- $150-200
captain commando -$120-150
avp - $150-200

Prices in the UK will differ I'm sure.

The cheaper beat-em-ups will be stuff like:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1
Cowboys of Moo Mesa
DJ Boy

Stuff like that can be had for $40-70 a pcb. A lot of the other games in the genre go for $80 and above.

Burning Fight... should be about £10

Not many games where you get sucked off by a hobo on level 3....

Sengoku 2 and Ganryu are probably the most expensive sidescroller beat 'em up on the mvs, and they are still cheaper than most titles on that list.

Ganryu is two players alternate play with set revival points, so you can't just blow through it by credit feed. People complain gameplay and graphics/SFX are NES quality. But IMHO it resembles Ninja Gaiden in both aspects, so that's not necessarily a bad thing. Unlike Ninja Gaiden, the stages have height, so there's often more than one route to go through an area.

It's mostly pattern recognition and finding the best subweapon for each situation (including your grappling hook). The memory card saves positions at respawn points along with your subweapon choice and quantity, because the difficulty of the bosses depends on the subweapon you are bringing into the fight.

For example, with the correct subweapon I can defeat the final boss without getting hit at difficulty level 8, at which point two hits is all it takes to get killed.
