I think I prefer the Genesis soundtrack to the arcade one. The Sega CD version uses the arcade music. I agree, it seems muted on the CD compared to the cart.Just tried playing golden axe again on the goobesis CD. What is it i dont get about this game? …
Other than i am retarded.
The music is very muted.
The attacks are awkward.
The rideable mounts are super cool for the time, excellent. But you get knocked off a lot because they too have awkward attacks.
I dunno, its probably just the aesthetic. Ive basically realized that throughout my entire life if i dont like what i am looking at, im never gonna commit.
Sorry Roker’s mom![]()

Was your apology to roker's mom referring to the rideable mounts?

The Sega CD version is a huge fail and has less features than the Genesis version. It's not even a co-op game. With the CD storage and scaling abilities of the CD attachment, Sega could have made it near arcade perfect, but cheaped out. Also, compared to the arcade, the enemies are way more aggressive about rushing your character from the very start of the game.Just tried playing golden axe again on the goobesis CD. Which is weird too because Beast Busters came out prior to the Neo Geo. Oh well, at least we have MAME to play the game. I know it was ported to European microcomputers but was the original arcade version released elesewhere.?This was explained as impossible due to the beast busters board having far greater capability than the neo geo can provide.
Speaking of CPS-1 games on the Neo Geo, someone is already doing a port of the Three Wonders minigame Midnight Wanderers.View attachment 82299
Not sure that would really be a problem. Resizing the graphics opens up a world of pain but clipping the edges would work much better. Text layer would need some work for the HUD and the scrolling routines would have to compensate for the edges but you have to re-write those for the NG anyway.
You mean something like this? Can we get a Neo port of Manic Miner? I'm sure the Neo could handle a ZX Spectrum game, no?
That someone was me, and it is 3x Z80s. Two (@3MHz) for code, one for the sound. The two code CPUs were transcoded to 68K and interleaved in software on the 68K. The 68K also decodes the map in software on-the-fly. The sound code was more-or-less discarded and samples were used with Blastar's sound engine.Someone did that to Xevious if you missed it (the original PCB was a z80 IIRC).
IIRC, you were working on porting Donkey Kong a while back. You mean something like this?

Getting the colours right
Again, Real Life has been putting a serious dent into my spare time but at lunchtime today I finally managed to get the palette right on the...retroports.blogspot.com
I've been looking for a new project... Manic Miner you say...
The problem of course is that the ZX Spectrum has a bit-mapped display. If Manic Miner treats all graphics objects as tiles/sprites, then it's not an issue. But when it starts drawing arbitrary pixels (spiders?), you have a problem. I needed a specific hack for the 'scroll' display areas at the bottom of the screen on Knight Lore, for example.
Top work pal! Speaking from experience transcoding Z80 to 68K isn't the easiest thing to do at all. That someone was me, and it is 3x Z80s. Two (@3MHz) for code, one for the sound.
