Folks, 20th this month I'm going to Canada for the first time. I'll be in Toronto for a whole month!

It will be just me and my wife :)

And yes, I'm very aware of the weather situation LOL.

I need some advice to places to visit game related, for cheap current gen games and old retro games, are there good places to get those for a good price?
What's the biggest game store in Toronto?
Are there any Arcades left?

One of the things I'm considering bringing back is a nvidia gtx 980, is there any good PC hardware shop with fair prices?

I'm also going to a few metal concerts: Dark Tranquility and Opeth/In Flames.

Any other suggestions for Toronto?

There are a lot of good restaurants in Toronto, so I'm sure you'll eat well. I've only been there with coworkers on business, so I've never gotten to check out the videogame/arcade scene.

If you can, I would drive down and check out Niagara Falls while you're there. It's pretty impressive, and there's a lot of touristy things to do in the area.

Welcome friend! Although I live a couple of hours away from Toronto, I'll do my best to give you some pointers and answer questions. Also, it's pretty cold right now, but not nearly as bad as last year's winter (worst in recent history).

A&C World is a good store which has both retro games as well as current games for good deals. Not sure about the biggest game store to be honest.

Here is their webpage: http://www.acgamesonline.com/world/

Are there any Arcades left?

There used to be an arcade called Gety but that closed a while back. The closest thing to arcades that exist are fighting game communities which get together on a regular basis.

There are a few places which you can get parts like Canada Computers and TigerDirect.ca. You can also order online from newegg.ca, ncix.com, and amazon.ca.

A&C games...yeah, that's your best bet for retro shit.

And as for arcades.....it's been a while, but your best bet is Scarborough town center, and Pacific Mall in Markham (used to be a chinese bootleggers paradise, but they are big into the videogames there and they have a decent arcade scene going on on the top floor...at least they did the last time I went there.

+1 for Opeth. Saw them in Denver once upon a time. They put on a great show.

In Flames isn't one of my favorites, but I bet they'll be a good lead into the big show.

Sounds like you have a good time planned in good ol' Toronto.

LOL, I love these travel threads where people want to know where the hidden treasure troves of cheap retro gaming are... As if:

1. There are actually any left
2. If there were, we'd actually draw attention to them :p

Enjoy Toronto. I haven't been since I was a little kid. I always loved driving up from NY. Tons and tons and tons to do, and yeah, the weather is going to be harsh, but who cares :) I love a good winter storm, especially if I don't have to stick around months and months seeing the sludge pile up on the side of the road.

Went to Montreal in 2011. I don't know about western Canada, but in Montreal, the food was excellent.

Yeah, A&C isn't that cheap actually...years ago I went there and bought a mint copy of Guardian Heroes for like 65 bucks, but to this day it's been the only brick and mortar shop I've seen that sells Neo-geo shit as well.

Sad to hear about the arcades. The only videos on youtube that I found are like "this was the last day of this arcade" or "this was an awesome arcade back at the time".

newegg is great in the US, I'll check the Canadian one.

Got check that out.
Do you remember when was your last time there?

Actually I'm going for In Flames. My wife likes Opeth more than I do. I'm not that much into progressive music.

There's also a great band playing in January: Dark Tranquility from Germany. I'm hopping I'll be able to see it.

Around the time I wasn't on deaths doorstep....so around 5 years ago?
It's been around forever though, pretty sure that arcade isn't going anywhere.
