Well, I've been a pad man my whole life, and decided to go for the real thing and use the old style sticks. For the most part, I'm doing well, but....

For guys like Iori where I have to do three fire ball motions in a row, I mess them up many many times. I guess I must be over doing the stick too much? It seems you don't have to move the stick very far to get it to do what you want. I'm just a little frustrated that I can't play as well with the stick as I can the pad yet.

I figure once I get good with the stick, it will be for the best (since there are times you have to push certain buttons at the same time, and it's super hard to do on a pad. Still getting flashbacks from when I had a pad and Real Bout 2. Doing the DMs were so hard because of the button layout on those little bastards.

I am, however, finding super moves a lot easier to do. Oh well....

You might want to read the subject header again for the answer to your question.

*ahem*... the old style sticks. (thanks Neo Lord ) As in, the first stick style made for the system. Didn't want those little ones because that would be too small.

The tough thing about the old style sticks is that they have a small "throw", or distance they actually have to be manipulated to execute a move. Try to hone in on the exact precise motion (just one quarter circle for example), and once you get that distance on the stick wired, apply that knowledge to more complex commands (supers, etc.) Unless you've been using em forever, the old style sticks can take some time to get used to. Don't give up though, cause once you get em dialed, they fuckin rock. They're so easy to pull stuff off on, and much less harder on your wrists and elbow than a big clunky ass US style arcade stick.

It takes a little while to get used to the old style Neo Geo stick. Once you master it, you will not be able to play with anything else that that unbreakable stick and lossy little black buttons.

The Neo Geo old style is perfect. It is very sturdey and strong, resists shocks and was built to last.

I was a pad-only player, too...before I got my Neo
After some days of excessive training I got used to the stick and now I can't live without it.
Unfortunately I still have some problems with blocking...sometimes I don't push the stick backwards...I push it a little bit too much in the upper region and *jump* the next super move kicks my ass
I don't know why this happens...everything else works perfectly.

Well, I'll tell you what, I've been playing almost nothing but Neo Geo the last week, and I'm getting VERY good with the stick. I'm able to pull off lots of moves now whenever I wish. I played my roommate today in kof98, and usually we'll go at least a few rounds. I started my game with Takuma, and walked all over him (did my favorite 16 hit combo on him twice). Also pulled off every move perfectly excpet one. I messed up his super one time. After that one game, and me losing maybe about half of my energy with his three guys, he just quit and walked out the room. I had to play Tekken with him on PS2 to make him feel better (he's better at that than I am).

Yeah, I'm getting really freakin' good with the sticks now, baby.

Good, Spike. I'm getting better with my stick too--last night I got to Mizuki in SS2 for the first time (I used Jubei). My % for pulling off special moves is going up.

You know what, I find sometimes if I'm having trouble with moves, if I rotate the controller base a little one way or the other to readjust it can help. Sometimes in the heat of battle the base gets angled.
