So, I sold my DS stuff this weekend, and purchased a whole bunch of Lynx stuff to replace it. I hadn't bought a new game for the DS for months, and didn't see much on the horizon for the thing. While perusing the game catalog for the LYNX I started getting that nostalgic feeling (hard-on) and realized that I needed to get back all the Lynx stuff I used to own, because I was missing out on probably the best handheld arcade ports of our time.

So far I've bought the following stuff, all complete and brand new, even all the games:
-Lynx II system complete, brand new in box!
-Super Sweek
-Kung Food
-Xybots
-Roadblasters
-Rygar
-Steel Talons
-Chips Challenge
-A.P.B.
-Gates of Zendocoon
-Hydra
-Klax

This is my new obsession.:buttrock:

not a bad obsession to have. I only lack a handful of titles for a full Lynx library. Love that little thing.

Gotta love Hydra! My next pick would be Toki, but it's probably because I remember playing that game in the arcade when I was younger.

Just bought 4 more games, all brand new:
-Ninja Gaiden III
-Slime World
-Switchblade II
-Paperboy

Woohoo. Can't wait for these. I had Slime World back in the day, and was lucky enough to lynx-up with 2 other players for some multi on this one, very fun.

Turbo Sub, Electrocop, Double Dragon, and California Games were also great diversions.

Dracula was great, if it only had some sort of save system.

Gordo is good, Dirty Larry, STUN RUNNER

damn! I need to blow the dust off my lynx now.

My Lynx spending spree is coming to a close, I've got over 40 games now! Holy shit I'll be busy with this thing for quite a while. I still need a copy of Raiden, I absolutely must have this game eventually. Someone sell me a complete copy, I demand you.;)

Brought this puppy to work last week and thoroughly enjoyed some KLAX. I don't think I'm alone here when I say that Lynx KLAX is the best classic port of the game. I own the TG16 version and it's not as good as the Lynx version. Haven't played the Genesis game though.

I'm looking forward to playing my copy of Desert Strike I just received, seems like a super-ambitious game to port over to a handheld like the Lynx.

Lets see, some games I got that totally kick ass:
-Turbo Sub
-Robotron
-Rygar
-STUN Runner
-Ms. Pac-Man

I've got a bunch of the sidescrollers but haven't given them a whirl yet, like Scrapyard Dog, Toki, Dirty Larry and Viking Child. Viking Child looks like a Wonderboy in Monster World clone, but I haven't played it so I don't know. If it is a clone of that then I'm happy. Oh, and I played Kung Food, that game sucks.:oh_no:

Damn, reading this thread has me wanting to get a Lynx again.

The Lynx version of Klax was the best port in my opinion also.

I second the vote of you picking up Crystal Mines 2.

They need to rerelease the Lynx with a new TFT LCD screen to cut down on the ghosting. I'd buy it.

Man - the Lynx was a pretty amazing system, and the simple but fun games still hold up, IMO.

Its all about getting in, gaming, high scoring, and getting out.

I dont think Ive played a better version of California games

Wow, I just remembered...

I have around 40 Lynx games, with boxes and manuals. All nice and clean. And a Lynx 2 system.

I don't use any of my Lynx stuff anymore - is anyone interested in buying any of my games perhaps? And what are Lynx games even worth these days?

Yeah I have the 2nd system. I would prefer having the first one though. Yeah it's bigger but there was something about that system that I really liked.

I have a few Lynx's. My fave is the model 1. Model 2 feels more portable...but lets face it, you are always going to play a lynx plugged into the wall, so it doesn't matter.

The model 1 has WWAAYYY better sound and the screen is a tad better. [of course, its a Lynx, so I am grading on a curve]

Great system

Ah the Lynx. The Neo-Geo of handhelds.
If you wanted great arcade action on the go, this WAS the handheld of choice.
If you wanted watered down Nintendo games then the Gameboy was for you.

I remember being in Software Etc. with my mom, and the salesman was trying to talk me into buying a Sega Game Gear instead. But I wouldn't budge, when the Ninja Gaiden beat 'em up arcade game got ported to the Lynx there was no turning back. I bought the Lynx 2 base unit, and Ninja Gaiden and went home and was blown away! The arcade ports were really close to the arcade originals. Better than any arcade port I had seen on NES. I remember getting really excited when I read in the rumors section of EGM that Street Fighter 2 would possibly be coming out for the Lynx. Even some of the Lynx exclusive games were off the hook. Here's the list of Lynx games I thoroughly enjoyed:

Ninja Gaiden
Turbo Sub
Toki
Rygar
Electrocop
Blue Lightning
Hard Drivin'
Xybots
Batman Returns (Hard as hell, but a fun intense game)
Hydra
Stun Runner
Dirty Larry

I agree that the model 1 has a much louder speaker, but that's where we part ways on which unit is superior.

I have both units, and I find the LYNX II so much better it's no contest IMHO. I can't stand the d-pad on the model 1 for starters, not only do I find it doesn't function as smooth, but it's inset quite a bit farther on the larger model 1.

The cartridge slot on model 2 is much more natural and logical really, the door on model 1 is a nuisance that gets real ugly real fast when the paint starts coming off, and the door itself is easily breakable.

I'd like to know in your opinion what makes the model 1 screen better than the model 2? I found that the model 2 is backlit much more evenly, whereas the model 1 screen seems to be lit from the bottom up as you strengthen the contrast, creating an uneven amount of lighting. Nothing serious, but I prefer the model 2 screen because of this.

I also like the rubber grips on the bottom of the LYNX II, I find the whole thing more comfortable to play for extended periods. All in all though both models are built pretty well, they look nice aesthetically, and contained every option you could think of.

Ok, so I've been playing Robotron quite a bit. I was suspect of this game being any good because of the controls, but I've found that the control scheme works 10x better than I expected. I have no issues with the control, so it's cleared the way for pure fun and realizing that this is yet another superb arcade port on the LYNX.

If I had to point out some negatives, there are some slowdown issues, as well as some hit detection problems. For instance it can be a total pain in the ass to hit the red rings that spawn other robots. Nothing that you can't learn to work around though. Awesome game no matter how you slice it though.
