Gene Hackman- his role in Unforgiven is what I remember him for- along with Eastwood, he really made the film what it was.
A film with Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood in it?

Um, you don't want her to live on and be happy?
My wife's entire post-diagnosis ethos was to prepare me to survive in a world without her.

I would have wanted her to carry on if our positions were reversed.

There is still so much life to live. Death will come. No need to run into its arms.

Also, the grief that comes with outliving a spouse is a responsibility. It's an experiential means by which to help others overcome the same thing when it happens to them.

I dunno I respect punching your own ticket whenever you want to call it but I also respect continuing on living after losing the love of your life if you can. Life is good.

I hope my comment about living on after your spouse didn't come off as judgmental towards Hackman's wife.

If, in fact, she self deleted over his passing.

I can only walk in my own shoes at the end of the day.

Life is to be lived but it's also difficult in circumstances like this. I think I would know.

So no judgment. They lived their lives, they lived good and successful lives and who am I to tell them what they should or should not have done?

No not at all, I know the suicide is speculative I was just thinking about the report they were mummified by the time they found them. So whether self imposed or not they had no one else in their life who checked in on them for as long as that would take so she definitely lost her whole world. Hopefully in the end it was someone close who found them and not the maid but that wouldn't surprise me either.

Unfortunately it was a maintenance worker that discovered them and not a family member or anything like that.

As for myself, I wasn't able to rely on Melissa to help me with whatever medical needs I had while she was fighting cancer. But I knew she was always there to back me up, make calls for me, check in on me and so forth during that whole process. Even though I did not expect it of her, she made sure I was looked after when I needed help.

Now that I'm alone (the roomie isn't home very much because of her job), it's more difficult to tend to those things. Appointments where I may need a ride (like vision checks and so forth) are not so easy to find anymore. Of course, there's Uber but the last thing I want to do when I can't see or properly take care of myself is get in the car with a sketchy hired driver. Not that I EXPECT anything bad to happen, but it's when you let your guard down that bullshit happens.

The best thing to ever come out of Missouri was William Munny.

My friend that works at Boeing (military side, not commercial) moved to St. Louis for the job and became a Cardinals fan.

We call him 'big faggit' now.

Unforgiven was my favorite movie of all time for a long time. It's still in my top 5 all time best movies ever.

Mystery solved according to Reuters, and while there was no foul play or maliciousness, it's still extremely tragic.

His wife died first from a rare disease spread by mice called Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome. Hackman died days later from heart disease and was in an advanced stage of Alzheimers, and thus unable to have the presence of mind to get help or even be aware she had died. The dog was in a crate and starved to death.

The Hantavirus?

That is fucking wild...

I know deer mice are in parts of CA, but there probably hasn't even been a thousand cases of it in US in over a decade.

I actually spent some time learning about that when I went down a weird avenue of animal-to-human viruses/illnesses.

How did nobody check on them long enough for the dog to starve to death?

His wife was 30 years younger, probably everyone assumed he'd die first and she'd find him

Is it classist that I just assumed all rich people have some kind of maid, house-servant person, live-in chef, etc...?
