I went back to GBA Super Ghouls n Ghosts a month ago, put it on hold for a few weeks, and last night just beat it.

the remixed levels are really cool in a nostalgic kind of way; if you've never played previous GNG games then they won't mean much to you, but there's something just awesome about going through the second level in the original Ghouls n Ghosts, but GBA-ified. that demon arremer joker boss is pretty koll too.

for a while I thought the way to get the remixed levels and Hard levels in Arrange mode was based on how often you died, then I figured out it was on what kind of armor you had -- that's fucking brutal, and I loved it. thank god for the Save feature, seriously. playing this game with the Gold armor and not getting a hit is a whole different experience!

anyways I love super ghouls n ghosts and the series in general and so it totally gets the LS seal of approval -- if you like the series, this is a must-buy.

(also thank god for the Game Boy Player)

airraid doesn't like super gng because he sucks at it, but yeah, hah, there are some noticeable differences between this and the SNES version, nothing too detrimental however.

It's still among the best ports on the GBA. I'm a big fan of the game.

Agreed, excellent game. The music was carried over surprisingly well also, something not easy to do on GBA.

I don't remember, can you move mid-air when you jump in this one?

You can change directions when performing the double jump, just not anywhere in between or after. Unless you jump straight up, your jump will always be a perfect arch from what I remember.

Isn't the arrange mode GBA exclusive as well? Just one more reason to own it.

Also, the game looks fantastic on a GB Micro.

I have the SNES version but I could never beat the final boss and now I have the GBA version that I got from AppleiDog and I plan on playing it on the GBA Player with my original GBA with link cable which can be used as a controller pad.

Anyways, all GnG games rule and I own GnG for( GEN), SGnG for (SNES/GBA) and UGnG for (PSP). Wish I kept GnG for the GBC. :glee:

There's a GnG for the GBC?

sure is.....

There were some really cool spin off games too for the GB, NES and SNES featuring the Red Areemer called (US names) Gargoyles Quest 1 and 2 and Demons Crest.

Not sure if GC2 made it out in the states or not (maybe ported to the GB) but there are translated versions of the Japanese game out there available to be played. Fun games.

Not a Ghouls n Ghosts, but a Ghosts n Goblins, yeah. I've heard it's way, way easier than the NES or arcade versions.

And setharnott, check out dark penguin's avatar ;) He used to have all the bosses from Gargoyle's Quest in his sig, but he changed it a few weeks ago. It was pretty cool. I also have Gargoyle's Quest 2, so it came stateside.

no kidding? I might have to try and find a copy of that then.... its a great game huh? Ya know I played demons crest when I was still in High School and remember really, really liking it but have not since played it... have you played it in recent years? If so how does it hold up?

Sorry to derail your thread dude!

Unfortunately I've never played Demon's Crest. It does look amazing, though.

The Gargoyle's Quest games have got to be some of the coolest spin-offs ever, though -- putting you in the role of a red arremer was such a wicked idea.

no kidding about it being one of the best spin-off ideas!

Thanks for the link hobbit; I need to go buy this game again now..... I forgot just how awesome it was!

Awesome indeed.

Don't worry, that sig will be coming back at some point. I cycle through them every once in a while. As you can probably tell, the GQ games are among my favorite games of all time. I love action RPGs....but an action RPG where you fly, breathe fire, cling to walls...to me, it's one of the few unbeatable game series.

I had Ghosts 'n Goblins mint and complete for the GBC that I bought back in 2001 brand new and enjoyed playing it but I regret trading it. I plan on getting the game again. :)

The NES GnG, as well as the GB GnG, were not ported by Capcom...it was some 3rd party company. I'm assuming it's the same with the GBC one.

the gameboy color version was ported by digital eclipse.

http://www.digitaleclipse.com/products/Games/showproduct.asp?ID=137

and they have also ported alot of games to xbox live.

As far as ports go, DE actually aren't too bad. They did a great job on the recent Capcom Classics collections. Probably a better job than Capcom would have done themselves, these days. They also did the GBA Phantasy Star collection, which is another pretty well done collection of ports. I know they've done a million other things, too...They're like the TOSE of the western world, except unlike TOSE, they tend to get credit for their work.

I just beat the SNES version for the first time yesterday (and the day before that was the first time I ever even got past the first level)...

Not to get off topic, but I didn't beat it a second time to get the real ending though, but do you have to use the fairy bracelet or whatever it's called throughout the entire game on your second time through, or can you just get it again towards the end?

I really want to play Demon's Crest, after reading this thread, but I want to get the real ending in SGnG first. Is it me, or is the demon that you play as, that pain in the ass bastard with the weird flight pattern in SGnG? I hate that fucker. :mad_2:

You play as Red Arremer("Firebrand")...he's in every GnG game in some way, shape or form. And yea, he can be a cocksucker...:lolz:
