Ok, it is easy to assume who the possible candidates would be for leader of the Decepticons should hypothetically Megatron be destroyed prematuraly. Starscream would automatically assume leadership, but not until the arguing and his subsequent killing of another decepticon to cement his role as leader. Although, I think his term as leader would last only until Shockwave was able to get back to earth to dethrone Starscream.

I have a problem with the Autobot heirarchy though. Who the hell would assume command if Optimus Prime was killed in the first season? There is no Ultra Magnus or Hot Rod yet. Ironhide is too damn stupid. Alot of the others are too specialized in what they do, and would not make good leaders. Such as Wheeljack, Jazz, Ratchet, etc... Omega Supreme, or Bumblebee wouldn't have a clue either.
Without Optimus Prime, the autobots are nothing and would soon be taken down by the Decepticons purely by the Deceps. ability to maintain and sustain organized warfare against the Autobots. In the first early seasons of course <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> I guess I'm just wondering who the hell could be a leader in G1 Autobots beside Optimus Prime. Any suggestions?

Grimlock was incredibly smart for a brief stint of time (in which he created the Technobots).

Perhaps we can better approach this by heading in from reverse: who is least likely ot lead the autobots?

Any of the small ones:
Cliffjumper, Gears, Braun, Bumblebee

I don't think we could rely too much on the following:
prowl (not enough action), bluestreak, sideswipe, sunstreaker, trailbreaker, rachet (no way in hell could he lead. Never even fought)...

Omegasupreme... No, no charisma.

Wheeljack, Ironhide, Mirage, Hound... I don't think so.

Perhaps "Smart Grimlock" was the best hope.

Hmmn... I think that indeed, Megatron was correct to say (to Starscream) that only a select few are gifted with leadership.

Ok, I've had some time to think about this. There is one Autobot who could lead other than Optimus. That would Alita One, permitting the Autobots could find her since she hides out on Cybertron.

Also, would Alpha Trion step up and assume command? After all, it would be in his best interest to organize the Prime-less autobots. I don't know if he would do it though, he doesn't seem to mind helping prime with some advice once in awhile, but I get the impression that Alpha Trion would rather just mind his own business and keep to himself, since he's already had his war (using Rambo's words).
