multi pcb's are shit. Spend the money on a decent mame setup so you can take advantage of mame updates. You'll want one that is configured to output the games are their original res.

I just use .bat files with the mame options configured. If games are 240p they scale well on a nanao monitor.

I just use a windows 7 box with a JVS-PAC hooked to my net city. with true JAMMA you're fucking with 15khz which I just don't bother. With the scanlines effect and 640x480 it looks pretty good.

If you want the options I use to run MAME I can let you know. I just use an old core 2 duo box that's like 3ghz tops, 4gb ram, and a 2gb nvidia card. You might want something beefier if you want to emulate some of the newer stuff, but that works fine for my needs and I built it for like $50 plus the JVS-PAC.

MAME4all is still based on .37 so no cave games 4 u!
if you have a 31khz monitor I'd take skate's suggestion and run a current build of MAME

Anyone want to build me something?

This is where i'm at. I have no idea what anyone is saying and really no interest in learning it.

Buy any PC made in the last 5 years with at least 4GB ram. Install MAME. If you have a JVS cabinet, buy a JVS-PAC. It automatically turns your cabs IO into the default keyboard scheme for MAME, coin slot(s) and all. At that point just hook the thing to your cab like a taito type x (hint hint)

I can take a picture of my setup on the net city if you want. Mike, if you have any questions you know where to find me.

I've built a couple. It can be very simple or quite complex. Are you building a system to drop into a cab? What screen are you using? Lots of variables to consider. Siimple solution is a jpac and an arcade vga video card. Get your ROM sets from pleasure dome. Best place for mame ROM sets and CHD sets.

I can help or build some in the winter months. Way to much to do outside in summer. I am also setting up visual pinballs this winter.

I can help with any questions.

Fourthed.

lol...I'm pretty sure all these posts with mame build specs is exactly what he's trying to avoid. That's what turns me off of it as well.

Word!

I want two drop in solutions, fully loaded w/ teh romz...one for 15k (legit, soft 15-or whatever it takes) one for 24/31k.

I've neither the time, or inclination to build my own. Happy to pay someone else for the job, tho.

I could possibly put together a few drop-in JVS (31khz) solutions. I really don't want to fuck around with 15khz/jamma ones. If I built them you would need either a NAOMI / Net City type cab complete with JVS IO, or possibly a capcom IO in a cab with a 31khz capable monitor. I could test the latter to see if it would work in a blast city for example.

I'd have to find a suitable front end for it though that likes 640x480 and will run mame with different command line options depending on the game. If anyone knows of one let me know. I'm looking at mala but it does not specifically talk about command like flags for the mame executable which is pretty damn important to set the right video modes in a cab.

Right now I run mame using different .bat files depending on the game to get the best possible video emulation, but that is far from a drop-in solution for most people. For example the options I use to properly scale a 320x240 game are totally different than the options I use for specialty resolutions (like smash tv etc), and they cause games with odd resolutions to render in tiny screens on a cab because it keeps it at a pixel for pixel rendering if it can't upscale it 2:1. Details I know you guys don't care about but are important for a good experience.

I am using groovymame with switchres at 31khz and it works well. I use hyperspin at 640x480 for my front end. It's nice you can set up some individual things, like I have cave in their own category, cps3,etc.

Appreciate the help guys. Anyone have a cheapo XXX-1 horizontal PCB they want to get rid of?

I'm not buying a bunch of PCB's - but would like to give one of those multi PCB's a spin.

No longer interested in MAME, just need a decent hori box.
I'll pm you a link to check out. It's more of the mame route, but it'll destroy and of these other things you're looking at. I know you don't want to get into computer specs or anything like that but with this u won't need to do much of anything as far as a build goes. Let me know what you think.

Can you post the link?

I didn't know if you're allowed to post a link to something like that or not, but this thing works as long as u have a decent setup. I worked on setting up hyperspin on my own for awhile and it was really time consuming and the computer I was using finally died. Then I just decided to buy this because it was way more complete than what I had worked on anyway. I've seen guys sell similar for less but I had purchased something from him in the past and he always responds to emails so I decided to go with him again and I think it was worth it.
