That is a nice collection!!! how long did it take you to get that lot???

Oh and i'm not suprised about the CEX thing they always seem to be doing stuff that i'd deem as unusual. never sure if they are talking BS or they are actually doing what they say.

in terms of marketing though........ :-> :D

Well, I started collecting a few years back and had no intension on collection all the games, But as time went by i realised that there was only 39 english title released, So i started to make a concious effort to collect all 39 just over a year back, When i got all 39, I started to buy playable jap games. As time went by i had a fair few and started going to the lot. It's cost a fair bit, But am glad i have a large collection. But there's a few others on here who have collections just as big, Shame that we all couldn't of been involved and had a neo geo.com pocket section, That would of been so cool.

It probably took a lot of time and effort as well as money, so all credit due to you. Hopefully I'll buy the mag tomorrow and that GamesTM thingy...

I did wonder whether that was a forum member when I read it...

If any 'merkins or other aliens ;) do want the mag (as well as the NGPC coverage it's got some really good articles on Eugene Jarvis, Nolan Bushnell et al) then email me or post here and I'm sure we can sort something out.

Cover price is 5 GPB so 10 USD should cover that plus postage.

Cheers

*peeks head up*

well - having read through the thread I guess its safe to come out now. You may remember I posted a topic about Neo- collectors in Discussion a couple of months ago. Nigeronpa was the lucky collector selected for his all conquering collection. I'm glad the response to the article has been generally favourable. This is my first collecting piece in Edge and I was shatting it to see what the reaction was going to be.

The interview with nigeronpa was very informal which is why there's some confusion about what was and wasn't said. The salient points of what was said as well as some direct quotations are there. Some elements have been spruced up a bit but this is standard editorial practice.

In terms of the CEX shelf- This was the only shoot we did for the whole of the Obssession article and the CEX stock was fairly crap that day. I put the best of Nigeronpa's collection on the shelf- Virtually everything else you see up there that is valuable isfrom my own collection. my original thinking was not so much that it would be a good advert for cex but more a fact of letting people search the picture for desirable titles lurking.

In terms of the MS price- £1200 is a good low point- the reason I put it so high is that I was told not to put $ for this article. This is the price range one would have to pay if the item came up for sale in the dearer territory of England.

All subsequent Neo pricings that will appear in Edge are listed in $ and have been listed in conjunction with Shawn for this season i.e. they are more accurate than the price guide.

Its been great to get a lot more exposure for Snk and I assure you- this is the thin end of the wedge. Everyone who does not have access to Edge should place their subscriptions in the very near future. Come december 23rd the Neo scene will have a lot more eyes upon it...

Good work Gozaimas, although I was wondering about the lack of home cart coverage in the retro special. I remember you saying you had interviewed Shawn etc, so we can expect an article on the Neo in the Christmas edition? Do you mind me hosting the scans? If so just say the word and I'll remove them.

i'm not really allowed to say but Neo AES fans would be advised to visit their newsagents on December 23rd.

Very few people have seen the article bar Shawn and Playmore. It will hopefully bring a new wave of players and collectors into the scene and site. I'm not one to blow my own trumpet as those of you who know me will account for. The thing is people here can be so negative so i'll post this quotation from Shawn: "Best Neo-Geo article ever! Seriously".

If that's not endorsement then i don't know what it ;)

Anways- Its all to get word out for the cause...

Gozaimas, were you involved in the article about Archer McClean's collection of arcade cabs? That was incredible, I've never seen anything like it. He has all the classics <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />

A good or a bad thing? Might drive prices up, but then the stuff we've already bought will be worth even more :)

But I gotta say the whole Edge Retro special was good from cover to cover. And this isn't coming from an Edge fanboy...

Just by way of correction (though I suppose it's too late now and doesn't really much matter anyway), that part in the article about only Europe getting clamshell cases is wrong. Japanese games came in clamshells for the first year and even US games were in clamshells at first.

And the estimate of 10 (or even 50) copies of Pocket Reversi is way way off. I know at least 10 people that own the game myself. It was available throughout Europe and Asia (which means Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. where reversi is actually a rather popular board game) for months before SNK recalled it. And the recall was optional anyway, only larger corporate chain stores actually sent their stocks back to SNK. Smaller shops, online stores and apparently many distributors held onto them. Toys'n'Joys still had stock of the game in late 2001 a year and a half after SNK closed up shop.

But despite being a bit sensationalistic (seems inescapable these days), the article and the retro-issue generally are pretty cool.

I was aware of that- It even states, "The US and, in the main, Japanese territories had to settle with flimsy cardboard cases..."

There are even some hardshell jap games pictured. I ddn't do the captioning for the article which may have led to the confusion.

I am no expert on this- The details on Pocket reversi come straight from Nigeronpa- one of the only two people I know of who own the game.
