You have these beautiful cabs with battle scars from the era of arcade opulence, fuck reproducing anything for it. The shit is gorgeous beat up, it's the only thing left from the era, why fucking rape it with something that comes 90% to the original when the original is already on the cab. Fuck reproductions, unless it's gone leave it the fuck how it is, i'd rather have an original cabinet with wear and cigarette burns than some facsimile bullshit.

That is all.

I don't think everyone wants to wait 9 years for an original EgretII 2L12B panel to surface when they are selling for $300 used.

I half agree with your sentiments. Unless the cab is a basket case, I am tempted to leave it alone too. The other competing factor is I am a shit handyman and dont care for that DIY work. Cosmetic stuff, to me, does not matter and I would not try repainting a cab. General wiring and buttons/sticks is where i think an owner has creative license to a degree if only to make the experience of playing a bit better.

I feel you. I can relate to best up Stratocaster guitars, with paint scuffs, chips, and such. Gives the instrument character and a unique beauty to it.

wabi sabi.

I keep the shell as I received it; however, in the case of a Franken-cab (see: my Windy II that came w/ a Blast panel) I have no prob w/ getting a color correct, cab centric overlay.

Not trying to sandblast/auto shop my jawn, lol.

Repro sticker arts are ok in my book too.

To each they own.

as a service to the community, if anyone has a perfectly restored cab....

Let me kick it down a flight of stairs for you, at a cost...

It'll be back to looking all beatups and scuffed in no time/

I was drunk, I don't care if you rape your cabs, but I do prefer the fresh out the arcade after a decade of use look.

As long as everything is functional, I try to keep the appearance of the cab as close to the condition I received as possible to preserve its history.

You're thinking that people aren't the OCD, must be as close to mint/original as possible fucks that they are.

Yeah, this'll bite me in the ass, I'm not saying I have any issues with a resto-job - a lot of shit is just too far gone or the decals are legit fuxed, or maybe someone just really wants it "like" new - so be it, not my money and who gives a fuck what I say anyways? lol I just prefer the previously loved/battered patina old cabs tend to exhibit.

The old stencil and paint cabs are the perfect example of this, the paint would wear off where people leaned against the machines and would rest their hands freaking gorgeous, even beat to complete shit they look cool.

You're forgetting about the dimension of smell. Best thing about oldazz candies is that 737 seatcushion/help we've been stuck in Spaceship Earth for 13 hours/Epcot melange of cooking plastic, sautéed dust and tired capacitors.

Srsly when I start walking up the stairs to Giefcade that shit floors me. Please announce.

Good point. For most people, they just don't get it. For others, they want a project for fun. But remember that Dr. Frankenstein used parts from dead bodies, and wasn't butchering living people to create his masterpiece.

My Sega Blast City (Bass Fishing) cab was quite beat up when I got it. If I could find NOS of the side art, I would. I'm glad there is at least an option for a replacement...even if it is a repro.

Funny this is brought up at least for me. I am in the middle of the same dilemma with my big red. Other than me fixing up the CPO refreshing it with new sticks and buttons, the cab itself really is in nice shape other than few minor things here and there. Vinyl is a really nice shape, lettering is clear and not worn off. I hate how repo vinyl and paint looks and feels. Trying to get a sheet of vinyl to color match big reds color is damn near impossible. Pretty much said screw it and leave it as is, battle scars gives it some character and its good enough for me at this point.

The battle-torn look is for woodies I would say. You would rust out a Bronco, but not a Delica IMO.
