My friend just got a Makarov pistol.

Anyone shot one before?
Yes. Snappy recoil, but very accurate. They are a breeze to disassemble. If you are skilled enough, a disarm and disassemble is possible. I have seen this done. Very cool looking, but difficult to master if not dangerous.
FPS Russia's latest:

(Dragon's Breath ammo at 4:22)
Expensive stuff and very dangerous at cq distances. Fo show only.
The flamethrower rounds are fun. There are videos on youtube of people shooting those at night. They look pretty badass. Not useful at all...but badass nonetheless.

I don't really care for the FPS Russia videos. He does some entertaining shit though and shoots cool stuff like the AA-12 and ACR. I am more a fan of these guys:

Hickock45
Military Arms Channel

Not a fan of the 'russian' guy, but Hickock's pistol skills are scary.

I used to have a Russian made double stack with adjustable sites. Good gun, fairly accurate. Could not kill it with a hammer.
Simplified version of a Walther PPK.
With the CZ82 available I see no reason to get one unless you are collecting. Sold mine coz I never shot it.

I recently traded off a problem prone Ruger SP101 that was my wife's nightstand gun. It surprisingly left her more upset than I bargained for so I landed up getting her a new S&W Bodyguard for mother's day (which was a great success actually).

Figuring there's plenty of expert reviews on the build of this thing, I'll spare you my pointless detailed opinions figuring I am far from an expert. In short, it seems well enough made, has a nice trigger and is plenty light (very light actually, 14.3oz). I know some complain about the laser position but it doesn't bother me figuring this is a home defense firearm and more than likely, in a "wait for them to come to me" situation that is my home, I can easily turn it on if I need to.

I took it out to the range to run some rounds through it...started off with cheap-o Winchester White Box 138gr WWB followed by some 125gr Federal Semi-jacketed hollow point +P rounds and last, some Remington Golden Saber 125gr +P.

All fired well, I do some marker tests on the rounds to see if the bullets in the 5th round were becoming unseated (recommended in the S&W manual) but I had zero problems with any of the three. The built in laser is plenty bright in full daylight and again, gave me no issues...I find it to be a welcome addition to s snub-nose revolver.

Everything functioned perfectly with the 50 rounds I put though it and I found it to be accurate. I was very pleased once I got used to the trigger pull (it's DAO for you guys that haven't heard about these yet).

As far as recoil goes, it is definitely there in the little guy but what do you expect with a 14oz revolver. The .38spcl were pussycats, I could easily shoot these for an extended period of time. The Federal rounds were noticeably stronger but again, nothing insane. The Remington rounds however were strong...very strong. I could say this is pretty close to how hot .357 rounds felt though my SP101. I can 100% say I will NOT leave it loaded with the GS rounds when my wife is concerned...they are borderline painful.

Of the pictures included, all were shot a 15 feet. Figuring we do not have concealed carry here in Illinois, this will be a home defender only, thus the distance I used. I was able to consistently get this thing to group as long as I didn't jerk the trigger...all groups were taken from shooting the Federal 125gr +P rounds on a "B-27" mn target:

A-15' standing (laser assist)- 5 shots 2"

B-15' leaning against post (laser assist, written on target as "rest")- 5 shots 1" group

C-15' rapid fire (laser assist)- 5 shots, 7" from top to bottom, 4" left to right

D-15' standing (iron sights)- 4 rounds 2", 1 stray

E-my father, 15' leaning against post (iron sights)- 5 rounds 1.25" (He's far better with a revolver than I am...what can I say, he's old-school)

To put it mildly, I am more than pleased with this revolver. Especially figuring how much I suck with revolvers when compared to my skills with a semi-auto. It didn't break the bank ($450), it's lightweight, it has a nice trigger and I shot better with it than I ever did with my SP101 at the same distance (granted, that gun had issues). I will say this thing is LOUD with +P rounds (shooting under an awning)...I bet it would be a serious firecracker in a house...

Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 for a shotgun.

Rifle depends on what you want to do with it. Get a Ruger 10/22 if you don't have one.

EDIT: Big 5 has fantastic prices on no frills pump shotguns.

Hey Smokehouse, I was glad to hear that the right people are suing the shit out of the state of IL to get you guys some form of legal firearm carry. While it's pretty bad here in CA in terms of our laws we as a firearm community have to remember there are other states out there with just as fucked up laws (NJ, NY, DC, HI, etc.)

I was ecstatic to learn the NRA filed suit shortly after the SAF. Coincidence? I think not. Looks like some deliberate tag team action.

I hope positive things come of this.

Yeah, those morons had the chance to pass it through a few weeks ago...actually it did pass but missed the number needed to override the governors' veto by only 6 votes. I knew when these morons here elected the pile of shit Quinn it would mean problems for anyone in favor of less government.

Uggg...I'm glad I live in Il and not Ca but not my much...

It could be worse dude.

We could live in NY or NJ where we'd need some absurd permit to even purchase a weapon.

You just apply for that and get it right? Pretty sure you have to jump through hoops in NY and NJ.

Yes and no. It is a serious pain to get an foid. Normally takes 60 days to get it. After that you're good for 10 years.

I like the 500 over the 870. Try & handle both.
you want a semi auto rifle or a bolt gun?
Remington 700 in .308 for a bolt action.

I'm about the most irresponsible motherfucker in the entire world. I bought this after the SEALs got Osama. That was my excuse (justification) for purchasing it, that and it's 2011...100 years baby. Anyway, just a cheapass 1911 but hey...I'm not in love with the platform of anything. I just wanted one cuz it's a 1911.

Not just no but HELL NO.
That is a bunch of hollywood drivel. You may see trick shooters do it, but I can almost guarantee they use a prop gun. The dumb ones might use a real one that is un-loaded but imo the risk is too high. One mistake, ie. your "pretty sure" its unloaded or "they are only blanks." & next thing you know, bang, you shoot yourself or worse, someone else.

Seriously? Unless you're Alex Murphy, you may want to just do this with airsoft.

Like others have said, try the 870 and 500 by Mossberg. Both are rugged, proven and reliable. You may find the safety on the 500 more agreeable and ambidextrous.

For a viable bolt action, the Remington 700 has a good track record. However, there are other options out there.

Yeah i seriously spun the gun around just like Russel Crow, i didn't throw it behind my back or flipping the gun like Ocelot, just did regular gun spinning. Dont see what's his problem.
