Hi, just want to know what could be the problem with my Final Fight board. It used to work then I put it in storage and hadn’t played it in quite some time and when I hooked it up it doesn’t work anymore. Nothing. Just a black screen. Anyone know what the problem is.

Could be the A board died. Do you have another working CPS1 game you can use to test?

Start with this:
A black screen on a Final Fight (CPS1) arcade board can be caused by several issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot:

✅ 1. Check Power Supply

Measure voltages at the JAMMA edge connector:

+5V (main logic)

+12V (audio)

GND

Make sure +5V is stable and not dropping under load (ideally 5.00–5.10V at the board).

🔌 2. Inspect the Board Stack

Final Fight uses a CPS1 3-board stack:

A-board: Main CPU and video

B-board: Game ROMs

C-board: Sound

Make sure:

All boards are firmly connected.

No bent pins or corrosion on connectors.

🧠 3. Check for Signs of Life

Do you hear any sound (even a pop or hum)?

Does the screen flicker or stay completely black?

Try pressing the test button on the JAMMA harness — any change?

🔍 4. Visual Inspection

Look for:

Burnt chips

Broken traces

Leaking capacitors

Loose or missing ROMs

🧪 5. Test Clock and Reset Signals

Use a logic probe or oscilloscope to check:

Main CPU (68000) has a clock signal.

Reset line is not stuck low.

Address/data lines show activity.

🧩 6. ROM and RAM Check

If you have a ROM reader, verify the game ROMs against MAME dumps.

Check RAM chips near the CPU for:

Heat

No activity

Shorts

🧰 Tools That Help

Multimeter

Logic probe

It's a CPS1 game. They just die.

So assuming it is dead. It can be brought back to life, right. It’s not like that’s the end, No more game.

The custom chips on the A boards go, there is no way currently to bring it back if this happens except borrowing the A board from a working game

I got nothing against you smokey, but a general point - copying and pasting AI responses to questions needs to be extremely frowned upon, or what are we all even doing here?

I agree but the OP question was so open and ridiculous . Normally you would list some of the tests you already tried to do yourself no?

You can find a replacement CPS-A-01 custom chip on any CPS2 A board.

I interpreted it as a purposefully low quality reply to a low quality thread, but I wish what you just said was drilled into everyone’s head. What’s the point of going to sites where people are if you’re going to have a bot stand in for you?

In other places (Reddit and that corpo shithole called LinkedIn for example) people just hit the generate essay button and get mad if you call them out, like how dare you not spend some effort reading this wall of text that I generated in 5 seconds.

I have chatgpt at home, too…

Yeah, I realised that after I said it, so was relieved I didn't go in heavy

Sure, but you still gotta harvest another game for it, there's no replacement for that dead chip that doesn't involve taking from another functional game

No. You get one that has battery roached corroded pins from a failed battery in the cart. They are around.
