Scotland play tonight at 2 am local time. I remember Scotland playing their first match vs Brazil in 1998, so I feel I should care about watching this long overdue return to a World Cup Champaign, but I also don't want to sleep in and ruin my Sunday morning as the garden needs done. Dearie me...

I finally have time off work to watch a match. I’m sitting at my local Mexican restaurant and am watching the Spain vs Cape Verde. (Thank goodness it’s the telemundo and not fox) Props to the Cape Verde for holding off Spain the first half. Their goalie had a handful of excellent saves. Not really surprised at a few of the no calls from the refs (blonde kicking the one guy in the back of the knee). Only yellow card so far was a hand to the face.

A few side notes. How the flip is there so many empty seats? FIFA can’t even claim it’s the heat because the roof is closed. It’s funny watching the main ref wearing a camera strapped to his head. The hydration breaks were just product placement for Powerade and smart water since telemundo doesn’t cut to commercial.

Ticket prices are a joke, guess that's part of the prob here.

And Spain - Kap Verde game is great, more than one hour in and still no world-class Spanish footie magic against an opponent that seems to be way more capable than the usual expert suspects thought.

It's disgusting that a $10 train ride is now going for close to $100. Shit like this is not supposed to happen and is shithole country bullshit. Downright shameful.
I believe Septa in Philadelphia is free but I heard yesterday they charged $160 for cars and $600 for vans and oversized vehicles to park in the stadium lots

Can't believe it.

That was the best goalless game I've seen in years :eek_2:

Mucho respect, Cabo Verde. Yeah, the game also was a case of administrative footie on the Spanish side but the islanders really put up a fight. Quick positioning, not too destructive given their underdog status, good show. Goes to show that WC has its own rules.

Spain and Cape Verde ended in a Nil nil draw. Props to CV for holding off the tournament favorite. The one image that will stick with me is the face a young Spanish kid (I think Olmo) made when he fucked by kicking it out of bounds.

Serves those cocky Spaniards right. Sitting your starting players is not something you do in a WC. Especially the first game. Hats off to Cabo Verde, they showed heart.

For an underdog like Cabo Verde, a top-ranked opponent who don't play full power is more humiliating than losing high. The Spanish players obviously did not want to really battle it out, which is understandable to some extend coz you don't wanna break your bones in the first match but this is WC not league matches so fuck the "result-oriented" bs and go all in.

Who’s going to start printing the “in Vozinha we trust” shirts?

But in all seriousness, what to you guys think is the biggest upset so far? Spain vs Cape Verde 0-0 Qatar vs Switzerland 1-1, Ivory Coast defeating Ecuador 1-0. Brazil-Morocco 1-1

Zee Germans have the right mentality. Start strong, run up the goals for the differential and secure top spot in the group. Rest players later. With hydration breaks and 5 subs every country should be starting their best players.

Spain for sure. Spain is a top ranked team. One of the favorites to win the WC.

Morocco is solid. I knew Brazil was going to have a hard time with them. Probably the only difference between the two is their bench.
