I had mentioned in another thread (I think it was the favorite fighters background thread) that 1995 was my year in SNK history. I thought that would make a decent topic for discussion, so, what was your favorite year for SNK & the Neo (1990-2000)?

So, yeah, 1995. Aero Fighters 3, Double Dragon (yes, I actually like that game), Fatal Fury 3, Galaxy Fight, Kabuki Klash, KOF '95, Pulstar, Real Bout Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown 3, Savage Reign and World Heroes Perfect. That many great titles in one year is amazing. '96 almost won out just based on Metal Slug and Neo Turf Masters alone, but Fatal Fury 3, KOF '95, Real Bout, Sam Sho 3, Savage Reign and World Heroes Perfect won the day, er, year.

Have at it!

I'd have to say 1996, just because of Metal Slug. That was the game that really took people by surprise and revived the Neo (when at lot of people were getting into 3D games). The Metal Slug series kept it alive for another 7 or 8 years (along with the King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown series).
Apart from that I'd say 2006, because that's when Last Hope AES came out.

1995 indeed. but damn whatever year carries Samsho II and Fatal Fury Special has to be the best too 'cause those two games solidified what SNK was all about.

1996

One of their biggest years in great titles. AOF 3, Kizuna, RBS, MS 1, KOF 96, SS4, Waku Waku 7, Super Dodge Ball, Twinkle Star Sprites, Neo Turf Masters, and Ninja Masters.

1995 would have to be my next favorite, as it was also full of great titles.

1996 for Samurai Shodown 4 mostly. But also for Real Bout Special...

Maybe I should have said 1990 (instead of 1996), because that's the year the Neo came out. That's when it all started.

96, but because 95 was so close by. 96 was not the top year for Sam Sho or KoF. But with KoF 95 and Sam Sho 3 still fresh, along with all the other 96 offerings, it was a good year.

1996 ftw :vik:

'97 & '98 were pretty good years too imo, but overall '96 is packed with awesomeness for SNK. :D

My vote will go to 1996 as well. Waku Waku 7, Kof96, Metal Slug and Real Bout Special are probably the reasons for me. But then again, I think any year have at least a few highlights

1996 is definitely a nice year, and 1998 is a personal favorite with the sequels: Metal Slug 2, RB2, ST2, and LB2. However, I am going to go against the grain and choose the classic Neo era with 1990. Just can't beat the feeling of Magician Lord, NAM, and Cyber-Lip competing against the 16-bit consoles!

Sincerely,

Mikhail

1st: 1998 - Purely just for KOF98. Honorable mentions: Last Blade 2 (although i prefer LB1), RBFF2, Blazing Star, Shock Troopers 2nd Sq.

2nd: 1995 - KOF 95 (Team Edit!!!, Omega Rugal, and Iori Yagami). 2 Fury games came out on the same year too. FF3 and RBFF.

not to discredit other years in between, before, or after as my opinion is geared mostly towards the most significant years to me.

I love assorted games like Magical Drop 3, Ninja Masters, WH2Jet, even Fighter's History Dynamite, and of course the Slugs.

when i just can't seem to list all the titles that i love, it gets frustrating as i'm always forced to choose.

it reminds us of why we all loved the neo, and still do.

I wanna say 1996 but its missing Last blade from that year. Then again 97 wasnt a special year by any means except for last blade ><

96 to 99 where all friggin amazing imho. Most of the neo games im playing and constantly coming back to are from 96 onward.

91

I have to go with 91 : sengoku, raguy, burning fight, fatal fury woaw what a year
plus we got the extra like 8man, roboarmy which if the gameplay was a little so so they are real candies for the eyes

I've just realized that 92 was the last "real" year for Beat'em up on Neo Geo
I guess that was a side effect of SF2
Would have love to see Nazca working on one

1996. So many good games that year: Metal Slug, Neo Driftout, Neo Mr. Do, Magical Drop 2, Neo Turf Masters, Twinkle Star Sprites... and the list goes on.

You know I just realized RBS came out in '97. The original Real Bout was '96.
