Sounds like it was more them using some of their own creative license since there's nothing else in AOF or Fatal Fury indicating Takuma killed Jeff.

Wasn't that also only mentioned in the SNES version and absent in the SFC one?

I was flipping through the sound gallery earlier today and noticed they had a new remix of that Street Smart tune (I forget the name offhand) that is used in the Fatal Fury versus mode. EOST is a lot cooler than I expected. It might not be something people sink hundreds of hours into like they do SF6's World Tour mode, but it made me realize how much Capcom padded that out as a walking simulator.

EDIT: I don't think Takuma killing Jeff contradicts the lore of Art of Fighting but it definitely defies what we know of Fatal Fury.
Not really. All it really contradicts is the PSX port of Wild Ambition's opening. And Wild Ambition isn't really canon. Even if Takuma killed Jeff, it was still on Geese's orders, so same difference. And Fatal Fury 1 takes place 10 or so years after AoF2. Who is to say Takuma is even still alive at that point? I haven't played CotW yet, so maybe he is. But he certainly never showed up in any Fatal Fury game from 1 to MotW.

I'd prefer if Takuma was the hatchetman, personally. That's more interesting. But I think there have been too many 'non canonical' versions where Geese does the deed and it just seems to me that, given the frequency of that version, is an echo of what SNK likely intended. There has never been any indication in the games that Terry, or anyone else, knows that Geese didn't get his own hands bloody with Jeff.

I've seen nothing in CotW referencing Takuma as the killer yet. It's more Mr. Big being a repeat offender in the kidnapping department in order to get 'Geese's legacy', whatever that is. It's definitely a callback to their soured relationship from the AoF series for them to bring him into this game in this capacity.

I used PSX Wild Ambition footage in my Fatal Fury video based largely on the SNK Wiki's lead of basically considering it canon. But now that you mention it, I think you may be right and I probably would've been better off just using AOF story screenshots.

So apparently Mai's original outfit is not included? I saw that Terry's classic look is included in the game.

Terry's classic outfit was a preorder bonus. I am sure they'll make it available to late adopters somewhere down the road.

Mai's costume appears on her when she does her Hidden Gear. She does this sort of 'magical girl transformation', deals her damage and transforms back into her current leather outfit (which I think is pretty cool looking).

I don't know what the roadmap is for costumes. Maybe someone else here does.

the SNK Wiki's lead
The blind leading the blind. Fan wikis are a good source of some stuff, but what they're often best at is propagating apocryphal misinformation -- sometimes with good intentions, someone's best guess or an honest misreading -- the fanbase will then spend decades treating as gospel.

Hey, I'm blind in this metaphor? :buttock:

Anyway, I completely agree about wikis. Wikis are taken with a grain of salt, obviously. We all use them as a guide.

@HellioN

After you said that, I wanted to check my memory and there are some similarities but there are also some differences.

SNES ending:

After Yuri says 'Stop, Ryo! That man is...is our...', Takuma explains that he came to South Town looking to get revenge for someone named 'Ronnet' but fell on hard times.
IIRC Ronnet was Yuri and Ryo's mother/Takuma's wife. I really wish they'd elaborate more on how her and Takuma met.

Takara's ports of both FFS and AoF were excellent, and their soundtracks (especially for the latter) were among the best on the SNES.

Speaking of Salvatore Fettucini, Maxamillian Dood has been playing him extensively and taken an unexpected liking to him. Hate to admit it, but I have too. After the initial, and very valid, "really, this fucking guy?" feeling of adding a real life dude completely unrelated to the franchise instead of a long established and wanted character, he's actually looking to be a lot of fun as a joke character that occasionally breaks the fourth wall.

Salvatore also commented on his video yesterday and is sending Max a custom track suit.

Ronaldo is still super lame and boring and stupid and forever will be.

At least Salvatore seems like a fan that got put in the game, Ronaldo is the real soulless inclusion

The coke stunt he pulled at a press conference was great though - they should have included that in the game.

It's because he had good designers, in a good game. It's a testament to craftsmanship.

I hate to admit it, but the DJ guy is growing on me.

Ronaldo is not.

Played some more Southtown Mode, Story, and finally took it online for an hour.

Zero issues online so far, but I didn't play enough of a variety of people to truly confirm if it's issue-less or not.

Billy Kane is cool as hell in this game.

Big fan overall--I was nervous leading up to release, but I'm digging it.

Gameplay has some real meat to it.

This game is so good. I watched the ending credits all the way through and spoiled the DLC for myself (list of VA for every character are in the fine print).

Some cool additions en route- no Rick S or Vanessa or boxers at all, sadly.

This jawn is F U N to play.
