Having fun with it. I think the graphics look solid, especially art direction wise

Played another hour of matches.

Game is a lot of fun.

Jenet's stage hurts my eyes though... the other alley-like stage is fine.

Been using Vox this whole time, but I'll switch it up next session.

Best part of the game so far was finally being able to listen to the main theme. Hyper defense gave me the most shit in training.

Super impressed with this netcode so far.

I only had one dropped connection and the rest were fine even with a meager two bars on some people.

Spent the better part of three hours with it tonight. Played through the tutorial, some casual matches, a few ranked, then messed around for an hour in room with a good buddy.

I'm really digging it. It's decidedly "old school" in feel - small things like needing to land a deep jump in kick in order to link a grounded attack unlike most modern fighters that aren't so strict.

Something I haven't seen anyone mention online is that many of the "new" mechanics are just additional properties to old mechanics. The Dodge attacks are just the A+B and down+A+B overheads from Garou with the additional properties added. And the Rev Blow is the CD TOP attack from Garou, and now you can do it in the air. Once I wrapped my head around that concept, everything fell into place for me.

I also enjoy the REV system - it adds some excellent tension to the fast matches and really allows some creative flexibility in how you approach your character and style. I think we'll see a lot more individual play style in high-level play out of COTW.

First impressions are strong. Have only tried Mai so far, but she's lots of fun! I do lament that you can't do Musasabi no Mai when jumping backward, but she has plenty of tools to cover that space regardless.

Has anyone played City of the Wolves, yet? How good is it?

Apparently, City of the Wolves is a sequel to Mark of the Wolves.

Game is fun, but I'm reliably getting the shit kicked out of me.

Anyone have any thoughts of starting an n-g.com room for fights over the weekend?

I'm down! Would be sweet to play with some folks here if we can align some times.

Only got to spend about an hour with it last night.
Did the tutorial, only thing that kinda hung me up was that block then basically perry move.
I kept thinking it wanted me to JD then press forward for some kind of other attack.
Tried to do some casual matches.
The CPU totally washed me then the single time I got matched up the other player cancelled, had to get some sleep so I gave up for the night.
I'll try some more tonight hopefully and maybe actually get to play.

The block/parry hung up me and many other folks I've talked to. I think it may be a glitch of some sort in the tutorial - none of us could pull it off. Frustrating, but this is a Beta and there will be plenty of wonky things.

Is that your game ID you entered in for the game? What's your actual friend ID number? Should be in your Battle Settings. I'm on Steam but can add you as a friend so we can cross play.

As for the data mine - here's a link: https://www.pcmrace.com/2025/02/20/fatal-fury-cotw-datamine-leak-bosses-pc/ - That's also clearly Geese Tower behind the redesigned Hokutomaru.

If you're still trying the block/parry thing it seems like it's basically

hold back to basic block the first hit then SF3 style press forward to parry the second

Least that's how I got it.

Sooo...

1: Hokutomaru.
2: Vox arguing with Kain while Grant (who's supposed to be dead but who ever dies in these games) is in the background.
3: Gato and Hotaru helping someone off the ground. A relative or is this someone I'm supposed to know but don't recognize. Maybe their sifu?
4: Rock Howard embracing his cursed bloodline.

Terry: Sorry, Rock. I tried to help ya.

*pushes him off the buliding

Terry: Okay, who wants to shoot some hoops!?

*thumbs up, winks, mugs for the camera

Did the training mode hack and sat in the lab with B. Jenet for about 30 minutes before I was ready for a beating. Got matched with a Terry who was 7 levels better than me and got my ass beat for 11 matches in a row. Then he dipped out and I got matched with someone 1 level better and went 11-1 and felt a little better about myself. :)

Playing on a PC Saturn pad is not optimal so I need to break out a stick to truly test myself.

Footsies feels super weird but it could be my poor response time on a sloppy pad. Things feel better when you use the Rev button to quick hop in either direction and I can tell the standard blocking into reversals is going to be strong against Preecha and Terry chain combos.

I’ll put some more time in tomorrow.

#3 - it's probably their father.
Iirc the dad supposedly killed the mom then vanished and Gato went looking for him.
When Gato didn't come back Hotaru went looking for her brother (Gato)

Checking out the open beta, the game seems interesting, especially that there will be a non-3d-solo adventure mode. (I did enjoy that in SFA3 on the PS)
Edit: Not being able to train (the post above has been removed) is a bit frustrating though. I need to search for 3-5 mins to find someone at 10 pm in europe on casual and then get someone who beats me down continuously because I didn't even have a chance to practice the moves yet.

I appreciate that the gameplay is smooth, but the 30fps background in the train stage is simply unacceptable. It looks like an old movie playing behind the characters. The presentation looks so poor due to the backgrounds, the game just isn't on par with the 2D classics.

Downloaded the steam version to try the training mode and was immediately reminded why I don't like gaming on a PC.
No Mac version.
Main PC has Intel graphics and the game isn't compatible and crashes out.
Other PC has Nvidia but the game simply refuses to start with no error message whatsoever.
Fuck.
Bullshit first world problems complaining finished.

I did find out the NEO•GEO X USB stick works on my PS5 with Brook FGC 2 adapter.

They had 6 years not only to improve things…how about simply not making them worse?

I hope they tighten up the gfx before going Gold. Ffs.
