I agree. It's like an 80/90s action movie, who gives a shit if Robert's 6 million dollar car escaped huge explosions without a scratch?

I think once we saw a bear in a gi (not moe), any sort of standard of realism should have been thrown out the window.

MOTW took place in 2007, so I think COTW should be 2009? I still rocked a BB for work then, so that tracks. Because I'm enough of a nerd to know, BBs were used as work phones well into the 2010s for places that had BES servers.

I honestly love how ridiculous these anime promos are. Invincible sports cars, a whole-ass bear as a legit karate student, henchmen who toss their guns as soon as fisticuffs start....good times.

I have never understood the hype for Rick. I obviously rather fancied the other new character in RB2 ( Xiang Fei ) but that's another matter. As far as boxers go, the best ones in my opinion are

Dudley and Vanessa ( both defy expectations of a boxer in a videogame )

Rick is really a bad attempt at replicating Dudley, gameplay wise and a bland character design ( screaming third gen native american )

2026 is awesome. In a matter of weeks I learned Robert was in fatal fury, then he was released without a long wait, and now I've watched his ending story on YouTube. There's almost no need to play the game.

I don't get it, then again, I prefer the Rick-less RBS over RB2 anyway. I would also take Dudley and Vanessa over Rick.

So much damn fun!

Tried Rob-, er, Mr. Karate out this morning.

Fun character. He has all of the reliable moves you remember but some of them performed a little differently. I love that he can taunt to reduce the enemy's gauge and that he can charge his own gauge. There is a lot of neat new stuff for him as well. Not sure about the coat or the casual fighting stance but these are nitpicks. He's still Rob-, ern Mr. Karate. Surprised Mr. Big isn't his sub boss (Terry makes little sense to me) but Marco is a good final boss for him, given the lore of AoF and how it intermingles with Fatal Fury.

Good times. I kind of want Obari to do an Art of Fighting anime now, but it'll never happen.

In Tekken, Kuma the Bear attempted to take over Mishima Corp. If the Kyokugenryu bear can Haoh Shokou Ken, it will give a whole new context to "watch out for bears" in these franchises.

Robert has so much aura that it extends over his car making it super-powerful. Kinda like Raoh's horse in Fist of the North Star.

I don't get the love for Rick. We had a family-loving airplane mechanic and former super heavyweight kickboxing champion in RBFF. Even his name is awesome: Franco Bash.

The deal with the car, is just like the OutRun, F355 series (and others).

Some makes only agree to license their vehicles in a game, if the vehicles do not take any damage in the game. They don’t want crash and/or busted up rickety visuals associated with their brand.

The cars in Daytona USA can be beat to shit over the course of a race and limp into the pit work smoking, because the cars are Brand•X.

Franco B. is dope! Heavy D. and Mickey too…I love many of the SNK boxers. Rick has a special place in my heart, re:

I’m not great at many games. I’ve mained and mastered Rick tho, and have a special affinity for someone I’m tournament caliber with.

I stumbled upon Rick on a lark, playing RB2 w/ and against @NeoTurfMasta in person-for hours over CAX weekend years ago. It was hella fun. More fun than any time I’ve ever used Vanessa, lol.

In the end, we like what we like. Some like the Yankees, some like the Mets. 🤷‍♂️
