Last night I was working on my cyberlead cabinet, its fitted with a 29/27 nanao monitor. Well, apparently the monitor was not properly grounded and the remote board touched metal...this completly fried the chassis.

Honestly had to fight back vomiting.

Those Nanaos are priceless to me...its not like I can run up to best buy and grab another. It just makes me wish I was into the simple things, like a PS3 or some shit.

Its weird because arcade gaming can be such a sweet thing, but when it goes bad...DAMN it goes bad. This will be the second monitor I have seen fried before my very eyes and it don't get any easier. I live in constant fear that my US thrid strike is going to just bite the dust at any moment...its just shit like that that makes me stop sometimes and think "what the hell am I doing with these things in my house?"

I don't know, just wanted to whine a little I guess.

i hate arcade monitors.

ive had such bad luck.

two monitors have just gone on me. busted flybacks both times. just fried right up for no reason.

and one time with my cab, it has this big grounded conductive cardboard covered area and well, it wasnt so grounded anymore. shocked myself a bunch of times trying to figure out wtf was up with that.

my biggest scare was when i plugged in my brand new 27" monitor i had just got from ebay and thankfully the only thing that blew was a fuse.

Oh yea, all the time when I had my Astro, being quite a newbie to arcade hardware I did a few stupid things like putting the Jamma harness on backwards but thank god it didn't fry my Neo which was pretty suprising.

The day I bought a Naomi 2 it was great for a bit but then I jsut thought "what is the point? this system has taken you hours on end wiring up custom shit for it to work, I cang et VF4 on ps2..." so I sold it, too much hassle, too much mony being spent on things I really didn't end up enjoying.

I'm out of arcade gaming for a good while, a long while.

My luck is not so bad with monitors and Im able to fix them up.

What gets me is when I destroy boardsets by doing stupid things like plugging my Galaxian boardset in back to front the other day, I realised my mistake when I could smell ICs burning :( now that really is a sickening smell.

Good thing about jamma is that the edge connect does not allow this, it can be reversed without damage (I dont recommend you try it)

With older board sets like Galaxian, if you reverse the edge connect you can get 12 volts applied to the 5 volt rail (the board had been moded for DC)

I killed a gd-rom once by accidentaly powering it twice, with both a psu and the I/O board (they had a connector that fit inside of each other). I have been lucky with monitor so far (fingers crossed). I do feel your pain though Im always scared I'm gonna kill something by accident.
