Wow what a game that was. It will be interesting to see what kind of team the Netherlands will field against Romania. If Romania were to beat the Netherlands and move onto the next round that would shock everyone.

It would shock who ???

Come on, don't be a jackass by saying that. The romanians know also how to play football.

Holland plays a beauty football and it was a nice match, but let's face it like it should - Altough I don't like the french team, they were very unlucky tonight.
Holland was very lethal and that's what's football's all about. But France clearly lacked of luck.
I bet that if Robben wouldn't have scored that 3rd goal right away, France would tie that match sooner or later.
That 3rd goal was the key. France moral went downhill and now they know it's almost an impossible mission to go much further in the competition.

Anyway, I'm damn happy for the dutch that they passed and in #1.

Watch out all that Holland Euphoria... any of the Group D teams can play eyes on the eyes against them.

that victory might also as well be very bad for Italy and France by the point of view that Van Basten is very possibly going to manage the whole team by putting a totally different starting eleven on the pitch, making tonight players rest and thus, playing without any problem of losing with Romania.

Kuijt will never be a great player. Milan Baros scored 5 last cup and where is he now? On a bench by his club team.

As for the goal by Robben, it was a thing of beauty. I really did not expect that out of him. It was everything that Henry wished his chip shot could have been and more.

I personally think Wesley Sneijder's goal was the best of the lot. That guy knows how to strike a ball for sure.

That goal was based on France's complete shift to offense. That goal could only happen when the opposition is down 2 with a few minutes left.

Sneijder - the discreet rapist.

Van Persie could learn a lot from him...

Day 8 -

Sweden - Spain

Greece - Russia

Will be interesting to see how Sweden handles the Spaniards. Guess Spain will win this one.

Now the Greek want to show they can actually play football too... difficult to predict, the current Russian team is not that easy to beat if they keep things compact in defense. They most probably will play counter-style.

.

Spain scored in the stoppage time! Sweden defended very well for the entire match, but one mistake is costly.

Yep, good match. The late goal was demoralizing for Sweden but it also was well deserved, mistakes like that simply must not happen on that level.

Spain is in the quarter finals now, more or less.

.

The match Greece - Russia is on. Russia plays way more offensive than I thought, Greece looks better than last time so far. Wouldn't be too surprised if Russia wins this one but let's wait and see.

if Russia beats Sweden and moves into the quarters next week, at least some of my predictions will be true.

Right now, my predictions were shit on by the Netherlands. Everything else seemed on spot. Turkey could go instead of CR in group A, Germany and Croatia were obvious in group B, Spain and either Sweden or Russia in group D. Fuckin Netheralands though. I gotta stop talking shit abotu Van Basten. The guy is a genius.

Day 9 -

Switzerland - Portugal

Turkey - Czech Republic

Both matches will start at the same time.

Well, seems like a simple affair for Portugal, Switzerland will experience another Waterloo tonight.

The Czechs are my favorite of the second match, I really want them to win this one. I don't get what's wrong with them, they have so many good players but something doesn't work right.

Yesterday was a sad day for Greece, they're out of Euro 2k8, Wednesday will be their last match day (Spain) and also the last day of the first round. Ah well, that's football, you enter Euro as the current champion and then you're one of the first to go. I think it's safe to say that the Greek won last Euro with lots and lots of luck, not so much technical superiority.

Will be interesting to see how the Greek media will treat Otto Rehagel. IMO it wasn't his fault but I guess that's not the way the general public thinks about it. I mean, it's the same over here, first it was Löw here and Löw there, press was full of praise for him and the team, now after the defeat against Croatia, they come up with the same-ol' bashing again. I really don't get that crap. Beckenbauer can stuff his lame bitching right up his ass.

The Switzerland - Portugal match won't be exciting to watch.
The swiss are already gone ( well, they're already at home ! ^^ ) and Portugal is already in the quarters. They will start with 5-6 subs bench players.

It's all about the Czechs vs Turkey. I'm crossing fingers for a draw :D I always enjoy penalty shootouts when my team's not involved ! ^^

I can't stomach pk's, even if my own team isn't involved... the German pk's last World Cup were HORRIBLE for me to watch, that shit so pure luck and guesswork. The old golden goal rule was crap as well but still I'd prefer it over pk's any day of the week.

Maybe the fact that I mostly played as goalie during my childhood and youth adds to my pk problem.

PKs are bullshit, I agree, but for some reason a lot of people want to see games end in PKs. I think that the reason for this is partly because this isn't a regular occurrence outside of a tournament's knockout rounds, and the other reason is because people don't care about the teams involved. I never like to see games end in PKs, and especially finals. The 94 world cup is still a bad memory. Watching Baggio miss scarred me for life.

Turkey vs Czech Republic should be a good game to watch.

I hate PK to decide a game winner. Everything should be settled in regulation or extra time.

Speaking of Germany's PK, do you notice that Germany never miss any PK (every single player scored) in World Cup since 74, Tak? Check the history and you will find Germany always win in PK shootout in WC.
