There was nothing he could do against the second goal, one of his own team mates gave the ball a different spin and that was that.

Now Frei will have another reason to cry his heart out.

There's a dark shadow hanging over the Swiss team, someone or something does not want them to win.

And now, according to UEFA, the match between Turkey and C.Rep. , if drawn and have the same fairplay ( aka bookings ) numbers, they have to tie break with PK's after the 90 minutes since Switzerland cannot make it anymore.
Obviously, in case of a draw.

I guess the germans are more likely to want Turkey than the czhecs ( I'm assuming they will end in 1st place in Group B ).

If that were to happen it would be a first I believe. Would there at least be some extra time or would it just go straight to PKs?

I think it's automatically PK's.

I'd love to see that happen since it would be a first yes.

Why do I love to see PK's everytime it's not with my teams ? ^^

The goal by Arda Turan was pure class. I highly recommend watching it again. It was as beautiful as a Juninho kick.

Day 6 -

Croatia - Germany

Austria - Poland

Well... Croatia seems beatable, we already had a test match against Serbia who play a similar style...

Austria - Poland is an important game for both teams, more so for the Austrians, they'll be finished if they lose.

Germany Croatia should be a fun game. Modric and Krancjar are awesome on the wings. I don't expect the Croatians to win, but I do expect them to play good football.

Definitely, the Croatian team has good players and they won't just hand over the game to us... thing is, our lads are a tad bit nervous, moreso than before the first match.

Ah, the hymns are on now, excuse me until half time.

EDIT:

Half-time, Croatia - Germany 1:0 so far.

Gah, just like I thought, they're nervous like a guy on his first date.

Well played by Croatia, they're really on a roll today. Only two or three chances on the German side... damn Modric, he's quick and precise as hell.

Hobb edz' Deutschland!!

things are getting nasty for the germans.

2-0 as of now.

depending on the next Austria - Poland match, all can only be decided on the last round of this group.

EDIT: Podolski scores and makes it 2-1.
The final score is now open again :)

It's over, 2:1 for Croatia, and well-deserved I might add. Weak game by our team, I would be even more worried if it wasn't for Poldi's hammer goal.

Very weak stuff from the German squad. I always thought Lehman was a terrible choice and this outing gave me even less confidence in him. Ballack, Klose, Lahm were virtually invisible. Podolski again is one of the few bright spots for the German squad. If Poland can win later today, which they should, this group will be wide open.

There's no good substitute for Lehmann in sight, that's the problem.

Well... Austria will throw in anything they have up their sleeves tonight so we'll have an interesting match there.

Sure there is, the problem is Joachim Löw doesn't want to take a chance with a young guy. Robert Enke, Rene Adler, Michael Rensing. All could stand in goal for Germany and I'd have a lot more confidence in them. Lehmann was a bench warmer all year in Arsenal. I foresee Lehmann failing in goal at Schalke next season as well.

Looks like Poland's tournament is done with a 1-1 draw to Austria. That was such a stupid penalty to take with merely seconds left in the game.

Löw bets on Lehmann's experience, that all there is to it. Neither Enke, nor the others have that. There were bigger problems today than Lehmann, defense fell back to their old mistakes (gaping holes, slow reaction) and most others were too timid to try anything beyond set-piece footy.

Well... thanks to the successful penalty kick, a draw would suffice for us come Monday against Austria. Not that I'd want our lads to play safe, shouldn't be necessary anyway.

the austrians have just shot themselves.

they could have easily be winning by 3-0 in the end of the 1st half.

They had CLEAR goal occasions.
I don't wanna say it was because of the GK , they just roundly missed them.

At least they can tell the swiss they score 1pt in the 1st round :D

Day 7 -

Italy - Romania

Netherlands - France

According to various Italian sport magazines, the team is very nervous, almost scared. I don't think that is justified in this case but it's understandable - they simply have to win this one.

If the Dutch play against France like in their first match, the blues will be blown off the field. Domenech reacted to the problems and put Ribery on a more offensive position (good decision IMO), I hope this makes the French game a bit more interesting.

1-1 at final whistle.

The italians can thank Buffon for saving a PK.

This group is cool, nobody's out yet. the decisions will take place in the last round !

Italy was robbed of the victory. It's that simple. Luca Toni's goal was good. That penalty shot should not have been a penalty shot. I usually enjoy watching Italy lose or do poorly but not like this where a referee again makes terrible calls.

Netherlands - France is AMAZING.

I feel almost sorry for Les Bleus... almost.

EDIT:

Holland beats France 4:1 !!

If that wasn't sexy football I don't know what is, eh.

Top match, best of Euro 2k8 so far, Holland is a clear favorite now. Man, 7 goals in two matches... awesome.

Wow what a game that was. It will be interesting to see what kind of team the Netherlands will field against Romania. If Romania were to beat the Netherlands and move onto the next round that would shock everyone.
