I got my 1cc on Normal. Playing the digital “evaluation” version on my mister, but I plan to own this in physical form when it’s available.

The game is great! Looks, sounds and plays fantastic.
Normal was pretty well balanced in difficulty for me. But once I figured out to get the early shield upgrades it got easier. Going to try Hard next.

Mistercade seems like a nice way to play. Right now I'm using an original Genesis 1 with an original 6-button pad, and then I ended up beating it on the bypassed Genesis 2 I bought from @yagamikun. The sound output from the triple bypassed Genesis 2 seems kind of low, but I think it does sound cleaner than my stock Genesis 1, so it's good.

Always get the adaptation pods. I added one weapon slot with the first one, then filled the rest of the slots with shields. Then I bought weapon max upgrades with the rest after it was full. I imagine if I get better in the future I might not need all the shields, but for now it's a good way to be able to get through the game.

Agreed. ALWAYS get the adaptation pods. But I don’t bother with the extra weapon slot. I rock just 2 slots throughout. My main weapon I play with is the flame thrower. Once you level it up, it has a long reach and does a shit ton of damage. I’ve been able to melt bosses down quick!

Besides, I find the tone of the open letter quite respectless I must say. Koshiro was already working in the biz when most of the encryption whiners including the author could barely hold a joystick. The idea that a veteran like him is not aware of the problems with copy/program protection schemes is preposterous to say the least.

Oh my good Lord, so you won't be able to immediately port the game to your Nokia 9000 Communicator, first-gen Mac or FM Towns?!? By Jove, what a blunder! I have to pay for *GASP* Steam shit, OMG I feel dirty, lemme have a goob tears shower :crying::uhoh::help:

Not only that but it's also a pretty shameless self promotion post too, with mentions and links to his shit at the end. Total lack of class, the opposite of Yuzo Koshiro.

I got a chance to play more and also play some Salamander III. This is extremely premature, but early on Earthion has grabbed me more.

One game within the game is getting the achievements for beating each boss with the prescribed weapon. Thankfully the "keep it up" audio cue is there to tell me when they are about to die so I can switch.

edit: Stage 6 tears me up. I got there without losing a life and then proceeded to blow all my continues before escaping with no reserves.

Just getting back in from vacation - bought the game on Steam (gotta support) and then proceeded to play it via the Mega ED Pro on my stock VA5 MD and PVM. What a treat!

While I don't think it's the second coming of horizontal shooters (haven't tried Salamander 3 yet...and Salamander 2 is my third favorite shmup ever...), it's quite good! Feels like a mix of Salamander and Thunder Force (not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet). It's awesome to play a well-crafted, true brand new Mega Drive game from a 90's developer that cut their teeth on the hardware in its hey day. This would have blown everyone away if were released circa 1993 or so.

Nice to see Ancient / Koshiro back in full form. The game just feels great to play, and the sound design (well past the excellent OST) is not only well done, but the sound effects often call back to other Ancient developed MD Games for a quick nostalgia hit. Good stuff!

Have you seen the games that he makes himself? It is just a way to self promote
