Man I love Animal Crossing on the Gamecube.
I had a switched Cube for Jpn/US games and I got Animal Crossing pretty much as soon as it came out.
I don't quite know what prompted me to get it, but as soon as I got it, it was pretty much the only game I played on the Cube for some time.
My sister used to pop over on a Sunday and she had her own house in my game, the same for my mum and also one of my nieces. My sister liked it so much that she got her own GameCube and disc swap so she could play the game (at the time they had still crazily not brought it out in the UK).
She ended up getting much further than me in the game, I got to pretty much the last mortgage and just spent my time fishing and redesigning the areas, at the same time, my sister used to now come over with her memory card and we would visit each other's villages.
My niece really loved the little summer island that you could visit if you plugged in your GBA and she set up her home there.
All in all, it was pretty much my most played game ever.
As time went on, I played it less and less, but I still loved to visit every once in a while.
My Cube was eventually packed away in anticipation of the Wii coming out (was getting a PAL one) and also I looked forward to the DS and eventually Wii versions.
The DS version however was a bit of a disappointment, it played ok and I used to hook up with some of my friends and visit their villages etc, but it seemed that something was missing. In addition I am sure that they took out some things as well (no Christmas?) and some other stuff too.
As for the Wii version, well I set up the Wii in the Lounge and well ... it never gets played full stop, I mean I actually got the Animal Crossing, but we started badly - basically the game forced an update, which then removed the functionality of a Action Replay disc that I used in order to play Densha Shinkansen.
I tried to play it a few times, but with the fact that the Wii did not get used much in it's location and again me not really liking the vibe of the newer games meant that I have hardly played the game at all.
Animal Crossing then became forgotten for me for quite some time and I never did plug my old cube back in to save on clutter around the TV I use for my games.
However, I recently went to babysit my neices and the eldest requested that I bring round my copy of WindWaker, as she had started to play that and only had a demo. As I have a non Pal unit that meant that I had to dig out my GC, which I took round.
I also really wanted to play windwaker again, although I playing the game again, it doesn't quite hold up to the positive memories that I have of it.
Nonetheless when I got back home I set it all up and now have visited my 'old home' for the first time since 2006/7.
It feels kinda nice too, I have tons of weeds to pick up, but my youngest niece seems to like doing that for some reason.
Also I forgot about the designs that I made (that took ages), more funnily I forgot how you exit the game ... I eventually remembered the option with the Gyroid in front of my house.
Anyway, for at least this Christmas I will be playing Animal Crossing once again and am hoping that my sis and nieces (and mum) will join me too.
I recommend that any fans of the game dig out their cube (or chuck the disc into the Wii) and relive some nice times in your village.
I used to have some pics of my village and home set up etc, but can't find them now. I will probably take some shortly, to share and for posterity!
