Topic One: My Cab.

HA HA HA! WHOOO!!!! I had to deal with MORONS to get it (morons are my word for New England Motor Carriers Freight in case anyone wonders) and I had to pay an additional 110 for the turd snackers to deliver it (only about $20 of that was delivery, the rest was for fees and surcharges..i.e. Mr. Pinball, who I got it from, didn't send the package to me...he just addressed it to NEMF's Pittsburgh depot...which was a bitch trying to find it as it wasn't in my name...try it some time. So I get charged $50 for that ).

I'm loving it. Every second. OH MAN. Seconds...all of them I have...in a row...are filled with love.

A side question for anyone, my monitor seems to bleed red whenever there is a lot of white on the screen...otherwise it's fine. What possible prognoses are attached to this? Do I need to 'cap' it or something? Thanks.

All those in the Tri-State area are welcome to come by for some Garou and Chinese Food.

Topic Two: Rez for Dreamcast.

Wow. Dude...the last 2 of the last 3 import games I've bought for the Dreamcast have been OUTSTANDING. Cosmic Smash, which is equivelant to Crack on a GD-ROM and quite possibly the coolest looking game I've ever seen (Very stylish and well done. Sorta a futuristic minamilism which I'm totally into). Now I get Rez, which is not only a cool Space-Harrier type Over The Shoulder Shooter, but it too has a great style and look. It's like....Tron vs The Vectrex vs 'The Minds Eye'-type late 80's CGI. It's totally cool. I can't even begin to go into how awesome this game is on so many levels.

If you're the kind of person who thinks DOA3 is a great game just because it has individually rendered hairs...then pass this one by. It's an artistic treat, not a hyper-realistic bump-map orgy.

But if you're really into all things digital and enjoy techno music (which this game is rife with and actually really starts to affect your playing style) than by all means pick one up and enjoy. It's fast becoming one of my favorites.

What is this Rez I've been hearing so much about? You say it plays like Space Harrier? Can you tell me anything more about it?

Damnit, there are so many fucking good games to buy now... Anybody who says gaming is dead is pretty wrong.

That's cool that you got your cab... I was seriously leaning towards picking one up, but I have a Super Gun, and that can pretty much satisfy my needs for Arcade gaming. I am however going to pick up a pinball machine... That's something no console or Super Gun can substitute

Okay...here's Rez. The story, from what I gather is you're flying through this giant computer and you're trying to shut it down by blowing shit up...enough with the story.

Yeah it's a lot like Space Harrier but it's a 360 degree Rail-Shooter, meaning you can and sometimes have to turn completely around. You can fly up and down, but very slowly. Most of the time you'll just be going straight (the 3rd boss is AWESOME, you're flying around it shooting and it'll launch this barrage of missles at you and you start flying backwards around the level picking off as many as you can. Very dramatic).

The first level is straight up line vector. It looks a lot like Tempest on crack. There's the occasional shaded polygon but it's almost all lines. As you fly around you shoot down as many guys as you can, as it is a shooter at heart. It's cool how you do it. You hold down A and then move the cursor over the bad guys. Every guy you pass over there'll be a line connecting you to him. When you let go of the button then you shoot and kill whatever you had a lock on. You can have up to 8 lock-ons. Some later guys take more than one shot so you can lock on 4 to one guy and 4 onto some others.

As you play you can level up by shooting these blue sphereoids. When you sucessfully level up, you character changes. You start as a very basic 3d charcter...not even wire frame. More of a bounding-box type deal. The next stage is a wire frame person, then a shaded person THEN this cool evil sphere deally...I've never made 5 but it looks like a crystline structure or something.

As your increase in levels your weapons change...as do the sounds they make.

The level 3 weapon is my favorite. It moves at sharp angles. Very cool.

The later levels start to use more shaded polys. Level 3 is mostly shaded and the boss reminds me of the 3D scenes from The Last Star Fighter .

All the while there's this techno sound track in the background. Sound is supposed to be a very important part of the game, I have not yet figured out exactly how. I do notice that at times it seems that I'm killing the enemies in time to the music, but that may just be imagined.

It's all around very cool and definately worth an import. Even though the graphics are 'simple' they are highly stylized and the game is blazing fast (as would be expected). It's a great game to just sit back and watch. There's a "Traveling Mode" where you can't be hit or killed so you can relax and just enjoy the sights and sounds.

Also what I like was this little command line interface thing that is constantly going in the top left corner and is sorta helpful at times (like if you're not sure if you're locking on to the boss or the sentinels around it it looks like this:

core
core
core
core
sentinel
core
sentinel
sentinel

That means you've locked on to the core 5 times and 3 sentinels.

I really recomend this game.

I'm waiting for PS2 REZ, cause theirs no transvibrator for the DC, and it's essential to play it in my book.
