I was wondering if i should buy KOF 99 for the neo cd when i already own it for the dreamcast. I own the U.S. dreamcast version (censored by agetec) and was wondering if buying the japanese neo cd version was worth the money. I ask this because i prefered the neo cd version of 98 to the dreamcast release. Has anyone played both??

well if you don't mind the retarded load times go ahead. However I have a feeling you will get more out of the DC release.

I have the Neo CD version but have yet to get the DC version. One questions though, how did Agetec censor it?? It not like Samurai Shodown or Metal Slug with blood.

W/ the Neo Geo cd version, you do get extras like the gallery, the ending viewer, and the ability to save. Also, you can use it to listen to 40+ soundtracks--something you can't do it w/ the DC version. It's like getting a free KOF 99 soundtrack in my opinion. Of course, DC has MUCH faster loading time, even when compared to the cdz.

I don't know about the censor stuff, because I have the Jap Dc version, and cdz. Maybe someone can enlighten us about the censorship part.

Off the top of my head, all blood was removed, and in the Kim Team ending the blood covering Chang and Choi has been palette swapped to blue. It's very stupid looking. They should have taken the time to remove the blood all together if they felt they had to edit.

Err, well, the only reason I would buy KOF99 for the NeoCD is to have in my collection(meaning to have it as a decoration) because playing it SUCKS. It has probably some of the worst loading time ever on any Neo CD game. EVEN BETWEEN THE FRIGGIN CHRACTERS SWITCHES IT TAKES FOREVER.

Get the DC version..

True the loading times on the cd are horrendous (KOF 98 takes forever!) Yet, im willing to put up with those load times because i have too much patience. As far as the censorship by agetec, apparently they have also removed one of whip's supers (where she uses a gun).

too bad that Agetec removes Whip's SUPER.
Well, at least Agetec releases KOF on both PS and DC in the States.

Hmm......seems like buying import game is the best choice overall.

I find the Dreamcast versions of KOF to be adequate and up to speed with the Neo CD versions. I am a huge fan of the Dreamcast, however, and am very partial to anything that comes out for it. The load times are much faster on the DC, and you'll probably play it more often simply because you won't always be waiting for the game to load.

AFAIK, Whip's only super is the Sonic Slaughter. However, I just fired up KoF Evo, and I don't seem to be able to do her special move where she fires her gun. Sure, it was pretty useless, but censorship just isn't cool. I've seen her intro vs. Krizalid, however, and that seems to be unaltered.

Hey! Whip's super really isn't in there?! I never noticed until now because I don't use Whip all that often.
Well that hurts. What else have you guys notice that has been censored in the US version? At this point I'm considering importing just to write a comparison...

I have KOF 99 on the NGCD. The loading time is really bad but I can put up with it. It takes the usual minute to load and then 20 - 30 seconds to load EACH ROUND.

The US version of KOF 99 (KOF 98) on the Dreamcast also had the anime intro censored. They didn't like King drinking wine. But I think Mai's usual animation is left in the anime intro.

Ohhh so the removed move was a special and not a super. Thanks for clearing that up. because so far the only version of KOF 99 ive played was the dreamcast one.

I've done some more testing, and it seems Whip's gun has also been removed from the PlayStation version. Also, the blood on Chang and Choi in the Kim Team ending has been totally removed.

But, frankly, I'd only recommend the PS version for PlayStation owners on a budget (I got it for $10, new) or collectors interested in the extra features, anyhow. In my opinion, it just doesn't play as well as the DC version (with the exception of double half-circle motions going from impossible on the DC pad to just hard on the PS pad), and looks and sounds a whole lot worse. It's too bad that PS got the original Neo BGs, while I have to put up with the 3D ones on DC. Sure, they're pretty good compared to the sparse Dream Match 1999 BGs, but I still prefer the style of the 2D stages.

hey did any body else noticed that leona's b,db+p move has also been taken out in the US version of kof evolution.unlike whip's gun move that does no damage but leona's move where she puts her earing on you and after a few seconds it explodes, that move does DAMAGE and it has been taken out. <IMG SRC="smilies/veryangry.gif" border="0">

KOF load times are a dream compare to Shodown rpg's load times. I find that the Neo CD KOFs are better control wise. I seem to have a harder time doing combos on the Dreamcast versions. Could be I'm just use to my Neo joystick.

Getting used to a stick makes one hell of a diffirence. Once you get used to something, doing precise moves takes getting used to.
