I beat Devil May Cry in under 5.5 hours and not with easy mode. I did not get stuck on even one thing. I found almost all the secret missions in the game. I got at least a B Devil hunter rating in all the levels. This game vas very, very disapointing. The grafix were very good, and the game play was good, but the story was very lacking [i started to understand it twordsthe end] and the difficulty was non exsistant. I would of rather rented it than bought it, so I returned it for MGS2. I hope to be much happier with it. Now the point of this is I wanted to know why people are willing to pay for these shallow short games with almost no replay value. Can someone help me with this, I mean I judge games by if i feel like I get what I pay for. I felt like I got ripped off so I exchanged it for something I hope to get my moneys worth.....

MGS2 isn't much better in terms of getting what you paid for out of it.

INDEED!

But DMC is not a bad game. Very pretty. Often reminiscent of Koudelka in terms of the Castle, monsters, atmosphere.

Hm... If would have been patient you could have played Dante Must Die mode. Beat ahrd mode to get it.I would to see how fast you die in that. I beat Devil may cry in under 2hrs and have more S rankings than I can count, but I don't whine. People just don't PLAY games like they use to. They always try to find what flaws they have.

Well, it's true that it's a failry short game that doesn't take that long, but it's a really good game. The plot could use work. The graphics (shadows and lighting are great, backgrounds are very nicely made, and the characters are nicely animated) kick ass. The combat is very fluid and VERY fun, with a good number of moves you can purchase. It's really linear, and you can't missa single thing (all the key items are shining). You may want to rent it..but it's a really fun game.

My gripe is the control. Someone who wrote the faq claims "The problems with RE controls have been fixed!"

yeah, whatever. I liked those controls.

Anyhow, you press up, character goes up, down, he goes down, etc. Problem is that angles change on you all the time, and this affects the direction you move in.

Bosses are not hard. The voices don't fit the characters in my opinion. But hey, it's a Setsuna RPG - can't be that bad.

come now, some folks might think 45 pounds to be rather cheap for "an afternoon's enjoyment"

Anyway, I heard of the "Devil Hunter" mode that turns you into something like Sparda ^_^

I rented it and it was an ok rent. Worth the six bucks i paid for it. But it seems that most PS2 games all suffer from the same problem TOO SHORT! Especially for $55! So far to date I haven't yet paid full price a PS2 game (NO I'M NOT COPYING THEM!) I go to blockbuster and try to clean up there. I picked up a fairly clean copy of Twisted Metal Black for 20$!!

Anyway, DMC is ok. I wouldn't pay full price for it but i would definitely own it. I think i would have been better had they done it more RE style (no missions!). The battles are cool and it's always fun coming up with combos but I can imagine after a while even that could get boring. I say if you can find it used and in good shape and for a good price 20-25.00 then pick it up. Right now Blockbuster has this game for 39.99. I can wait.

I find the game very satisfying, both on an artistic level, and a gameplay level. It has that kind of old school ambiance I used to feel in the 16-bit era. Short, but the gameplay never gets boring for me. I can't count how many times I beat it! The game just grooves with me man.

I liked Devil May Cry a lot. Not as tense as MGS 2, not as cerebral as Silent Hill 2, just a fun, light experience with one wicked soundtrack. DMC has a great look to it, and there's a lot of potential in a sequel...as long as they get rid of Trish, who was a lame character.

When I was playing it, my friend Radd (of Raddradio.com 'fame') said "this is what Castlevania 64 should have been like". I was like "yeah...if you take out the techno soundtrack, give Dante a whip and fix the lame control scheme (I agree with Wasabi...RE's control is better than DMC), it may as well BE Castlevania."

Yeah i my self enjoy DMC alot, and yes it's a little short, but SH was really short as well, and i didnt hear any people complain about it, it took me like 4 hours to beat it, and DMC about 7

This was predictable. Nowadays it seems if every game isn't a 40-hour epic with several sub-plots and complex characterisation it isn't worth owning. When did this happen?

Bang on Verbatum dude! DMC is a finely tuned gameplay experience that rewards the expert players and punishes the weaker ones. The whole point of the game is to look cool and have fun...it isn't offering much else

For me this is one of the best games ever...maybe because I'm a crazy Devilman fan. You all know Devilman, right?

Look around for some reviews too, this was a very high-profile game, so most of the online video game sites covered it.
