Played around half of the arcade mode and a stage of the new iPhone mode, so I didn't upgrade any of Tiara's items. You can get new brooms for attack power from Sakura's shop. Speaking of Sakura, I wonder if you can unlock her in Arcade mode. I know she was only playable in Black Label but it'd be a cool extra to throw her in along with Tiara.

Game is hard to control.

I'm sure I'll do better.

I love this game!

I died when I got to Sakura and was introduced to the "Sakura's Shop" concept.

In order to continue you have to buy continues (and other items) at Sakura's shop for 10,000 pieces of gold. You earn the gold during gameplay (not real money). I think this adds a tremendous amount of fun/replay value to the game. I think I can see I will be putting in many hundreds of hours into this game. Joyfully.

I played on my ipad. (like Tonk it seems!)
I liked having the extra room on the screen, and I think it looks REALLY good even when boosted from iPhone mode.

This game is a blast!

I did another playthrough this time on my iPhone 4. I died sooner. Not to say it is more difficult. It may be easier on the iPhone to control.

The controls on the iPhone seemed more optimized and snappier than when I played it on my iPad.

But Screen Real Estate was an issue. It's worth noting you can make the screen a little bigger by going into the options and selecting large.

When controlling the character my thumb initially covered a good deal of the screen. So I started using my index finger, this seemed to help but wasn't quite as natural as my thumb. Making my finger footprint as small as possible was important so I don't miss monsters. I even experimented with using my pinky! This was effective but too difficult to be useful.I found the best way to control was at an angle using mostly my fingernail to actually control it.

Overall, I am a believer in touch controls for shooters and almost find it prefable to a beautiful Sanwa/Seinmitsu 8 way joystick.
I think it's possible touch is the future and we may even see actual cabs using highly sensitive touch panels. (Imagine having a dual screen setup, little touch screen with your game so you can tap areas but blasted on a monitor. I think the potential for highly precise and potentially highly skilled gameplay is there. And could actually help the arcade market.

The very reason they include screen sizes for these games is so that you can have space on your iphone/ipad where you can touch and move your character without actually covering any of the gameplay. If you sacrifice that extra space for prettiness, your fingers will cover up the game.

Also, what is this bullshit about selecting rank for the final level? :P

Done

Could have been way higher, but I died unintentionally a few times. Not by lack of skill, but the choppy controls.

I kept tapping power up, never went in, and got hit.

For real.

Nothing can replace joystick controls.

Having a steady finger is nothing.

Real skill is the joystick - which has been the king of the arcade since the beginning.

Touch is not my future, that's for damn sure.

true, of course..
I personally don't own an iPad or iPhone, but the potential for touch gaming is there and has a viable future.. 'bullet hells' on touch devices could reach millions of new school gamers and revive the popularity of once obscure games..
/end rant.

I love a joystick too. But I think there is room for touch based games as well.

I just want to see the hobby thrive and continue to grow and find new fans. And developers to make enough money to keep pumping out rad stuff.

I do not want to see all games touch based or anything, but I would like to try some intense ones specifically made for touch.

I like to have a game that I can play on a console on the go. Nothing will replace a console/arcade game. I'm having fun with the game. Need to get my screen cleaner because my thumb is slipping a bit on it. Haven't played much of the new mode since I've been seeing how far I can get on one credit, still about half way. Going to record some gameplay for my site tonight and get the word out about the game while the sale is still going on.

(I forgot about the new editing rules.)

Does anybody know if Sakura is unlockable in arcade mode? Not sure if they'd include her since she was in Black Label.

Tried this today on my brother-in-law's ipad. I was suprised that the touch controls are fairly decent. But I think I'll stick with the 360 ver. (Just cant beat physical sticks and buttons.)

Considering Deathsmiles is Horizontally orientated this wouldn't work like this...

The stick is just bluetooth though, so I guess you could find a way to get it in there.. You might have to do serious modification though, and after all that whats the point?
