unfortunately none of those announcements were surprises, so I'm in a meh mood right now. at least there's a slew of shmups coming out in the following months.

That is true, but confirmed releases are better than unconfirmed ones. This is the first I've heard of Guwange Arrange and Campaign Versions, I'm definitely most excited for those.

Thanks for the links fellas.

Also, 16:9 mode for a Cave shooting game is a first. Pretty excited for DSII too!

I doubt they would release Guwange on the US version of Live Arcade considering how the WHOLE THING is in Japanese, but here's praying!

Yeah I was really hoping to hear about a DDP DFK or Pink Sweets port. I'm sure DFK will get one eventually. Pink Sweets, or even better an Ibara compilation of Ibara, Ibara Black Label, and Pink Sweets would be a dream.

Although it's nice to hear another Cave port is on the way, I don't know why they would choose DS2 instead of DFK, Sweets, or Pork. Judging by the footage I've seen of DS2, it doesn't look nearly as good as the first. Decent at best. It would have been much nicer to see something from the Ibara series, DFK, or something totally new like Muchi Muchi Pork. I'm sure those all would do well and fans would buy in Japan as well as overseas.

Damn....this is like the golden age of shmups (if you like Cave).

Edit: I just looked at some video. Are the 3d graphics an option, or is that all there is?:oh_no: I like the 2d look for these games. It just looks a little bland to me.

There must have been something about the sales of Deathsmiles that prompted them to port the sequel to X360 as well as localizing the original in the US. This would be the first Cave game ever to be localized elsewhere from Japan.

Deathsmiles is Cave's most popular and best selling shmup ever in Japan, at least so far. And it's not just because of the lolis (though that definitely helped). The gameplay is very good and easy to understand. On top of that, it gives the player the ability to select the difficulty for each stage, which makes the game far more accessible to a broader audience than Cave's previous games.

I want to be excited about DS2, and I hate to be "that guy", but the 3-D is just killin' me. It's a huge step back. Not just because it looks like it was ripped straight from a PS2 launch title, but because their 2-D sprite work is leaps and bounds better. DS2 may be the first Cave shmup I don't care about.

Just get Treasure to do the graphics Cave, you worry about the gameplay.

Agree with you 100% on this. I can't stand looking at DS II, and I absolutely loved Death Smiles.

That's true, but so is KOF 98 UM :loco:

As far as I know, every Xbox Live Arcade game has been a universal release so far.

The fact that DS2 is in 3D doesn't bother me. What does bother me are the animations for the enemies. They're not nearly as good as the ones in DS1. I find this quite odd, since all the sprites in DS1 are just pre-rendered CG models. I don't see why they couldn't have just transplanted the full animation sequences from those CG models onto the 3D models in DS2. I also think Cave's new PC-based arcade hardware should be powerful enough to render realtime 3D models that look closer the the CG models used in DS1, though it's possible that the backgrounds also being in 3D might be hogging the resources necessary to do that.

As far as I know, every Xbox Live Arcade game has been a universal release so far.

That's been the case 99% of the time. I think there's like 1 or 2 XBLA games that are region-specific.

Its not really necessary to know any of the text to play Guwange. Just the control scheme.

I agree, it looks extremely fun. plus, there have been significant changes from when the game first came out until it's current iteration (v. 4.0), it looks to be a vast improvement from the initial game. Plus, the graphics on 360 got a nice tweak too.

I'm a massive Death Smiles fans (In fact I run the game's high-score board over on Shmups), but I'm just not enamoured by the look of DSII. To me there's an ugliness to the way it looks. I think it just appears a bit lacking.

I'd love to be proved wrong though, and I'm really open to it being good.

On the subject of Cave DLC, I'd love the DDP Campaign Mode to make it to XBLA, and we all know it's easy to create a Japan account in other regions!

Yeah, it's region locked. Anyway, taken from the shmups forum:
