lol.
Maybe my sens of humour is not really well understood.

I never touched anything on the cart, even removed the dust, wich is a part of the value.
It is a released game, but it is a real prototype cart. it has a value for me, a historical value.
:)
I do not have time to track down the differences with a geniune copy, maybe it will be reasonnable to dump the game if I track any difference when I'll have time to see this.

Anyways :)

That rules! Nothing wrong with Street Hoop! Too bad DE didnt put date codes on the eprom stickers like SNK did. It would give you some idea how far along the game was. Maybe it will include a remixed version of "Magic on the Blacktop"

Few people told me by PM that Trieu have, or have had a Baseball Star 2 prototype cart like this in the past.
Still investigating...

Gentlemen,

Yes indeed, I can say with almost complete certainty that the cartridge pictured is indeed a genuine Data East NEO-GEO MVS proto cartridge. Granted, it is sad that it turned out to be of an already released game (Street Slam), but as he says above, even protos of released games on NEO-GEO and/or any other game systems for that matter are extremely rare, highly desired, and collectible.

Don't let the Data East Product Number throw you off either, the number has nothing to do with the NEO-GEO product code numbers. In fact, another Data East proto cartridge that passed my way a few years ago (Magical Drop 3) also had the same exact style of cartridge case with the cut out sections and the eprom window stickers as well as the Data East seals and label. It is marked D1-051. And another (Ghostlop) is coded D1-059. So I can pretty much authenticate this guys claim. (I also have a very good idea where he may have gotten this too)

Thanks for posting such nice high rez pictures and for letting us know about it. That is very appreciated indeed. The extra drama is also very welcome. I am pretty sure that I would have done far worse, so I cannot fault you for it!

Definitely let us know if anything is drastically different from it and the final released version. Always curious to see that. (3 Count Bout anyone?...oh yeah!)

:)

One last note, there are no known unreleased Data East NEO-GEO protos that reside on the product code list. (no screenshots, info, or numbers to spare anyhow for that matter) So pretty much if/when any and all data east neogeo proto carts come to surface, they will 99% for sure be of already released product.

Thanks,
Billy Pitt

lol, don't remove those stickers off the chips or the roms will be wiped clear.

Doesn't it take fairly strong UV light exposure to erase an EPROM? While I certainly wouldn't recommend exposing the windows to a light source, his camera flash likely didn't damage the ROMs.

You're right.
For a lot of Bootleg PCBS, the sellers did not add any sticker, so the EPROM was ready for Sunlight. No problem after years!.

I DID NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, stickers etc.., last time :)

It is impossible to open the cart to see the second PCB, because there are the 2 DATA EAST stickers on 2 of the 4 screws..

Wow, this thread turned out quite well. Congratulations to waku7 on scoring this.

I'd love to know if there are any differences. I played the original, have it on home/MVS, but a bit meh on the game --dorky fun, though.
