So...what all have you been doing over there? Do any drifting in a rental car? Possibly in a spiral tier parking deck?

...Or just overpaying for a Coke so far...

When I was there in December I tried the Mega Tomato Mac in the McDonalds. It was pretty good. If they still have it try it.

They probably give free refills, but thought "hey, lets scam the American tourist". Kinda like how they do in Italy.

Nah they definitely didn't, I was with one of the students from temple, and he spoke damned good japanese. this place was swanky, my designer pizza was 20 bucks and was damned small, so i don't expect it everywhere.

p.s. all the waitresses i've seen here so far have been hot as hell. but it's strange, like every chick I see over about 30 years old looks like hell. I knew asian chicks had a short shelf life, but i'm seeing it first hand and it's shocking.

and smoke, no drifting, don't even have a license over here, I did see a pretty sweet modded out 300zx today though, don't know what the fuck they call it here, i've been out of the car scene for a few years. haven't done anything wrth a damn yet, had to sort out my lodging classes the last 2 weeks.

You're going to assist in an English class over there, right? Under what program?

Well, post some pics when you get a chance. Did you take a video game system with you?

nah duders, i'm at temple for a semester. i know jack shit in spoken japanese, and have no fucking time or patience to learn it until i graduate. i've definitely been in 'ignorant american mode' the last couple weeks. although they don't seem to mind when you're spending money like water.

gameoz, pics are coming, didnt take any systems, but plan on getting a japanese ps2 next week, am checking out the mandarake shops at broadway arcade to see if i can find a low priced used package with some games. hokuto no ken fighter ftw.

McD's has this burger with egg now. The Mega Tomato was a special for last month.

Pizza is expensive and not very good in Japan IMO. Mainly because it either has mayo, or it has no tomato sauce.

You should try hitting those crazy maid cafes if you're in Akihabara. If not, maybe you should try Mos Burger instead of McD's. Burgers are also not that great in Japan, but Mos is pretty nice for a Japanese burger.

Oh yeah, the girls that look 20-25 in Japan... sometimes are 30-35. The girls that you think look bad. for their age.. may actually be 40 years old and up. I swear to God, it's actually like that... at least where I live (out in the sticks in Fukui).

You can definitely get some cheap eats in Japan... like some good udon or traditional Japanese food. You'll get taken for a ride at the exotic places, including the American restaurants that aren't fast food.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

My wife and I are both in our 30's now and she looks younger than I do..

Also, Mos Burger is pretty fucking good, but for cheap fast food, First Kitchen>all.

I had spaghetti over at that place... it was okay. The fries with the seasoning was a little bit too much for me, though.

Lotteria is also decent... I wish there was a Wendy's in my area. There were a lot in Tokyo. I would prefer that place over McDonald's.

Saizerian (I think that's the spelling) is a family restaurant that has a lot of American-like food. The portions are small, but it's cheap... so you can have 3 types of dishes for around 1000 yen or so. Good for sampling.

Pepper Lunch was a pretty good place to eat... been there yet? It's basically a hot plate with steak, rice and other stuff. When they give it to you, it's raw, but your hotplate will stay hot for a good 5 minutes. So, you have to stir the food and get it cooking. Not bad compared to other places I had.

TGI Friday's and Outback are in Tokyo and Osaka, I believe... but it's like 3000 yen for Outback steak and 1500-2000 yen for a burger at TGIF. And I heard that Outback DOES add on gratuity to your bill, which is strange because I have never been to another restaurant within Japan that would even think about charging it.

Who told you that??? In my experience, Asians (especially Japanese) age far better than white or black girls. The girls you are looking at are probably much older than you think.

vending machines are 200 yen a drink, which is a huge ripoff too. The average meal in a Japanese restaurant is 2000 yen. Go to a supermarket and do some shopping, if you know what's good for your wallet. The food is better in the supermarkets anyways. Japanese restaurants are really too hit or miss to gamble on.

Ignore the Japanese women. Last thing you want is Asian bird flu.

i love those hot cans of coffee and hot chocolate! not a ripoff at all.

where are you staying Dash? if you're staying in tokyo i would highly suggest taking a few days to check out kyoto. it's really amazing.

have fun on your trip and make sure you take a dump into one of those japanese toilets on the floor at least once, haha.

Just reading this I can't wait to be in Japan again. --soon enough.

Nothing beats Russian women on that scale.

I kept going to Starbucks over the local knock-offs in the morning for the different pastries they had --I got a kick out of the fact they sold those small waffles. Oddly enough, the pastries in London were the best I've seen at a Starbucks (sadly, I've also been to ones in Mexico, Spain, Germany and China).

Have you gone to the legendary Tsukiji fish market yet? I've always missed it, I'm planning to go next time. The only issue is that you have to get there in the very, very early morning to see the insanity of more than half of the international trade of fish going on in one place.

The nice thing about Japan, at least from my experience, is they're the less like that than other places. For the extreme opposite, cross the water and head over to China... :emb: (morocco was also bad)

I've always heard Italy is amongst the worst about scamming tourist. The most tourist friendly country I've personally been to was Belize. I could tell retail workers were catering to me more than the locals.

My next vacation will definitely be Cuba (the country, not Miami). Another country I've heard is very tourist friendly.

Do you generally tell people if they ask that you're American when traveling ? If ever asked, I'll always say I'm Canadian.

I tell them I am Alaskan, particularly if I am in the Lower '48. If I want to fuck with their heads, I ask them if the local businesses take Alaskan money. :p

I heard that a Big Mac in Alaska costs like 3 beaver pelts now.

We don't eat Big Macs. McDonald's only has those for the tourists that visit. Alaskans have the McKinley Mac. The McKinley Mac is made with two quarter pound patties. Named after Mt. McKinley of course, and is only sold in this state.

It's not three beaver pelts either, it's one wolf or two beaver and a fox.

My apologies, I meant to hit Quote on your post and hit Edit instead.
