Bit of a random question, but do any of you know if there's a decent place to buy replacement plastic pieces for the connector of a SCART cable? I've got a cable that cracked this in shipping from Amazon, and I did not find them too helpful in terms of a replacement. Maybe not something that's worth it, but it would suck to deal with on the more expensive cables of this kind.

I consider myself extremely lucky to still have a flat tube CRT for my retro video games. However, I got to wondering, if my CRT ever dies is there a modern HDTV that does a really good job of handling standard definition consoles?

Occasionally I connect my Wii to my 40 inch Sharp Aquos LCD (via component cables) to play my favorite Neo-Geo fighting games and the picture quality isn't bad. When I connect my SNES or N64 to that same set, though, the PQ is horrible. It makes the idea of not having a quality CRT rather terrifying because I really love some of my games on those consoles.

Getting us back on track, I recently picked up my very first PVM, a 14M2U!
Here it is, in full halloween mood, displaying beautiful RGB thanks to wyo's fantastic SCART to BNC cables.

No modern TV, all by itself, will come anywhere close to what you're used to with your CRT. Look first into upscalers designed for gaming like the Framemeister or the OSSC. Past that, all you really need is an HDTV that doesn't inherently introduce significant lag.

Not really. The best thing is to get a tv with low input lag and pair it with a Framemeister. Or just hoard crts.

Hoping someone can help me out with my Sony PVM-14L5...

I have a BKM-129X card for an extra set of RGB/component inputs. Unfortunately the color is darker and not as balanced as the built-in RGB/component inputs, even when using the same console, SCART cable, and SCART-to-BNC adapter. Things I've checked:

  1. Color settings (e.g. temperature) in normal menu match between inputs
  2. Color settings in service menu match between inputs (not even sure if these are different per input...)
Anyone have any ideas on other settings or things I should be checking? I'd like to get the colors to be similar between the 2 sets of inputs if possible, but it's not a life or death matter since the 1 set works well.

Had some time to get back to this. Turns out it happens whenever I have cables plugged into the video outputs (and on both the built-in component inputs and the BKM-129X). I can easily disconnect the component outputs when I'm not trying to video out to my other TV, but it would still be nice and convenient if I could keep them plugged in without making the screen darker. Anyone know if this is possible?

I'd grab a frameister or a ossc if you were concerned about not having easy access to crt tv's. But as of this day, it shouldn't really be too much trouble finding a decent consumer tv off from craigslist or other places. Though honestly, i'm not sure how long that will last. Eventually the supply will run low and they will die off.

I've moved it twice and it literally almost fell on me. I'm not dying from a 300 lb tv. F that. The second time I moved it it was down two flights of stairs. Nope. I'm done. :lolz:

Same here dude I've moved my 27 inch Wega and when I had it a 27 inch pvm with bracket by myself. Not doing that shit any more. I'm very happy with my 19 inch pvm and if the 19 go's one day, I would happily downgrade to a 14 or 9 inch pvm.

I would even do a nice consumer 20 incher.

Sold off my framemeister and used that money towards some crt's. Two 14 incher's, a PVM and BVM.

Thanks bro, I'm surprised how bright the picture is on both monitors. Those pictures were taken with the contrast set to default. Could be it looks brighter also because they are smaller monitors.

Seeing your kids experience the games you grew up on.... priceless

This is a great picture, your kid looks like he's having a blast. Looks like a pic you would see in some old school Nintendo Mag.

Sporting a Sony PVM 20M2U, M-Audio monitors, GSCARTSW 8 Port Scart Switch and plenty of RGB consoles. Up next: Looking for a nice AES to round it all up.

What brand of speakers are you using?

I really like your TV stand since it gives you easy access to all your consoles.

Thanks! The speakers are M-Audio AV42's:

Really like them. They fill the room nicely and have decent bass while still remaining true to the audio source.

The stand is a brand called Bell'O. They don't make the exact stand anymore but here is something close on their site:

I was using this as a stand for my old plasma but since buying an OLED and wall mounting it, I repurposed it for my retro setup. Keeping all the controllers/sticks on the bottom shelf for easy access.

I really like that stand too. It took me awhile to find one I liked that would also hold the weight of two PVMs. Since TVs don't weigh much of anything these days, stands aren't generally rated to hold that much weight.

How's the shielding on those M-Audio speakers? They look really nice. The cheap pair of bookshelf speakers in using aren't shielded so I don't dare use them next to my PVMs.

Great looking setup!
