Hey guys,
So I need some info. I bought a Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition board from an Arcade Op.
The board is authentic Capcom.
All the chips still have the Capcom logo on them.
I also noted that there isn't a battery on the top smallest board.
It plays without sound too.
I do believe it's a hack.DSC06860e.jpg
I can throw ultra slow fireballs, Mid air fireballs etc.
What I would like to know is how can this be?
The ops in my country dont mess around with boards. And if it is a hack how do I get it back to the original game?
All help appreciated.

no battery on my C board either.

like tyranix said, you can just burn roms ( use mame dumps ) , many members here can do it for a fee I'm sure.

Seems odd too as all the roms look legit, even have capcom stickers on the EPROMs.

Just dump the program roms, and upload the file to romident, or look for the CRC in mamedb.

Also consider sending the images to the MAME team if it's a distinct hack, I think these are pretty cool.

There are no batteries on the C board of SF2'CE. I think this same C board was used with other games that did suicide such as Captain Commando. Does seem strange to have everything legit and have a hack.

The lack of sound could be a totally separate issue with your A board.

Interesting that a hack would use mask roms (unless those are actually official roms for the GFX), but that's a legit capcom cps-dash board, by the looks.

Thanks for the idea. Though I dont know how to dump roms.
Dont own an EPROM reader/writer either.
I guess the time has come for me to start learning and get one. :)

I'm sure the Maskroms are the GFX on CPS 1 B boards. The eeproms dotted at the bottom and up under the C board are more likely to be the Program eeproms.

What is the date code (six digit number) on the screen when you first start the board up?

Actually, I just checked my HF board and the B board says "4M JEDEC TYPE" as opposed to "4M MASK-ROM TYPE". So that explains why mine is fully populated with EEPROMs rather than a mix with mask roms.

That'll be right. When I said B boards, I meant the B board in the photo above. In the MASKROM B board, like the one above, the EEPROMs are almost certainly the program roms.

Would any of you be able to point me in the direction of a teardown?
The board is really dirty and I'd like to take it apart to clean. But I dont know how and really dont want to risk damaging it.

You should just be able to pull the boards apart. If they've never been taken apart I would imagine it would be quite stiff. I would remove the C board first, then the B board. Try to apply even pressure on both sides so it comes out straight and try not wiggle too much because this could cause more damage.
