Played two rounds at the arcade today...

Both rounds I used Mr.Karate, round one I played against Gouki / Akuma, round two was against Kim.

In both cases, my opponent forced me into a corner and kept me there for most of the round.

Are corner traps common amongst N.American players as well?

How do you get out of them?

I do them all the time. The best way to get out is to kick your opponent off with a CD counter, there are other ways but this is the quickest and easiest.

What's the timing for that?

Do it before you think they'll strike, mid-strike, or while they're recovering?

What about low B kicks, or low A punches?

Just block and when they strike you quickly press C+D, you'll knock them across the screen. There are also characters with delay in moves (like Terry's QCB+P), you can groundstep and punish those. Dms are a good choice too but risky if you miss.

Low As and Bs will be you're doom since they can jump over you and combo or predict you and DM you (As and Bs have a delay after them too).

Again, this is before they strike, or mid-strike?

Thanks for the tip anyway, will try it later on tomorrow with the wife.

You do it as you block

The second you block the attack, hit C+D to send them flying.

*note - It costs one power stock to use.

and does no damage :(

No damage... hmm, well I guess it can't be helped if it gets you out of the corner.

So let's say I do a C+D and knock my opponent away using Mr.Karate, what should I do next... is there a good follow up move?

There is some damage in it but very little. You know how your opponent has like almost zeroenergy and is running around a whooping you? Do this counter and they will be KO.

Nope there is no follow-up to this, same as KOF. You'd probably want to run out of the corner.

Also, if you're quick, you can press f, f during a block, the same timing as the C+D counter. this will make you dash forward while your opponent is still attacking, and this dash is cancelable, so you could go straight into any move, be it a normal special, a DM, or a throw.

Oh, this is called the Guard Consumption Dash.

It uses a small amount of gauge power, but not a full power stock.

Grr If some gay Akuma player keeps cornering you throwing those air fireballs... then be sure to either CD counter him if he's near or if you know what to do, then GCD his fireball just as he's bout to land and either throw him silly or combo him mad. :P

Kim should be easier to escape from a corner though.

Yeah, what he'd do was jump in with a low kick, do a shoryuken, then jump back and do a regular fireball, then jump back in with a low kick etc. etc.

It was really predictable, I just didn't know how to escape from it.
