Cool Cool Jam, anyone?

I recently bought this NGPC Jap game (and Neo Turf Masters, it rocks! :D ), and I have some trouble playing. Anyone knows how to play and what to do?

I understand moreless how to play instruments (it's very funny to turn your Neo upsidedown and in different odd positions to play, getting a "real" instruments feeling), but I don't know how to save game and so many "basic" things.

Please I need some help! (Or if you have a FAQ..) :(

To save your game just press option and then up on the stick to highlight the tile above your character pic, then press A and it should be come obvious what to do from there since it'll be in English.

The gameplay itself is more complicated and, to be honest, I haven't gotten very far in the game. Ironically, it's much more complicated than its big brother, Cool Cool Toon, on the Dreamcast.

But basically, you join the inhabitants of each world in "knotty" sessions which are the simple timing-beat challenges that run along the bottom of the screen. Certain inhabitants (you can actually tell which ones before challenging them because they turn to look at you when you enter the screen) will suggest a jam session using real instruments if you do well in knotty with them and then, if you do well in the jam session you'll get a piece of the instrument for that world. If you get all the peices of the instrument it gets added to your band.

I believe the goal is to get together a full band and then enter a battle of the bands competition, but I haven't gotten that far.

It's an interesting game with a great style, but very frustrating since most of your time is spent searching in vain for people who will give you instrument pieces. I feel as though I'm missing something in the game...maybe playing and doing well in knotty with the normal inhabitants causes a challenger to appear sooner. I'll have to experiment with that some more. Cool Cool Toon on the Dreamcast is even cooler, though; it's one of my favorite rhythm games of all time.

Thankyou very much Sweater Fish Deluxe!! I have to try all the things you said :D I hope I can go through the game with your advices :D

If I have more trouble, I will ask you next time :p

NeoSneth, I found the game in a small shop in a Manga meeting in Spain (Saló del Manga), a month ago moreless (along with Neo Turf Masters). I think that shop was from Madrid, but I doubt that will sell internationally. If I found the address, I will put it here ...

I hope what I said helps. I don't know though...I've usuaally been able to hack my way through just about every Japanese game I've ever tried playing, but Cool Cool Jam sort of stymies me. I suppose it's possible that it's just not a very good game, but it has such a cool design and concept that I want to give it the benefit of the doubt. I really ought to spend a couple weeks with it rather than just picking it up for a few hours once every 2 or 3 months like I've been doing.

I got both Cool Cool Jam and Toon from Toys'n'Joys, by the way, but that was a long time ago and Ithink they're all out of both by now. Cool Cool Toon I highly recommend, though. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but once you do, thegame is just so...cool cool. It makes Space Channel 5 look lame and style-less by comparison.

I like Cool cool jam and I'm sure I would like it even more if it was translated or had a good faq.

Getting all the pieces of an instrument will not ad it to your band automatically. You will have to meet the person who plays it for them to join you. Sometimes you have to do something (like guiding one of them to a house in funk-town) before they join. The exeption being Ranke and T-bone since they join you when the game starts.

Also when you have all pieces of an instrument you can go to a store and upgrade it (asuming you also have the person who plays that intrument with you). You will have to collect the instrument pieces again to upgrade that instrument again. You might have to do something more in order to get it to level 3.

The game is timed and will end eventually no matter how far you got. You might have to work fast in order to get the best ending. Time only passes when you are walking around, not when you are jamming.
