Well guys, I'm just excited to be able to say that the CFC2 translation project just reached the end of the storyline text. That's not to say that the translation is complete, but the storyline is mostly done and there's not a lot left after that.

Check it out here if you care.

Well, I'm hoping that it'll be playable on the DS. I think the GBA is way too slow to emulate it.

Thanks to the rest of you guys for the kind words. It helps a lot to know that people are excited about the project.

Hmm... That would be cool if it were on the DS though I would be fine with a general NGPC version

There's a multi-system emulator on PSP called "e[m]ulator" that has decent NGPC (also Wonderswan BTW) emulation.

So this is one to watch for PSP users with CFW. :)

BTW - NGPC IIRC actually had a decent 16bit CPU, despite the limited graphics and crappy sound. So I don't think GBA (17Mhz) or even DS (66Mhz) can necessarily emulate it well. Even on PSP we still don't have perfect NGPC emulation, but I think that's mainly due to lack of interest by coders for some reason. Maybe this game's translation will spark interest again.

Yeah, the NGPC needs some horsepower to emulate. I'm surprised that nobody has tried porting R.A.C.E.! to the PSP. It should work. If I had a PSP, I'd probablly attempt it.

RACE! on the DS is fairly slow, but with some hacks, CFC2 is actually fairly playable on the DS.

Hows the project coming Flavor?

Oh, fine. I mean, other than holidays and vacation, it's still going. I just got back from Florida, so I'll get back into the swing of things. The translator (Calden) was working on some tricky lines of text, but I think we've got that worked out now.

If this were a real job, it would have been done quite a while ago. When you only work on something in your free time, the free time has a way of getting allocated elsewhere. Anyway, I've got some work coming in from a couple different people, and I need to make some time this week to get that work inserted into the game.

The big problem is that we, once again, ran out of room in the game for English text. I have a plan to work around this, but it's untested. I think there are places in the game that are unused that I can stuff some text in, but there's a chance that it might not work and then I'm not sure how I'll work around it. I hope that I don't have to go through all the text again and re-word things to be shorter.

Any way to physically changes the title screen to an english logo?

Might be too much trouble, but you know.

Yes (to both).

There is a way, but it's a lot of trouble. I was able to change "Expand Edition" to "English Edition," but the rest is a bit more than I care to screw with. I'm no artist, so these sorts of things take me a lot of extra effort. Combine that with the fact that hacking that graphic is nothing like editing a normal picture and it becomes ultra-low priority.

You'd use a program called Tile Layer Pro to load the ROM and edit the graphic tiles. If someone wants to have a go at it, I can give a bit more help getting started.

Well, if you (or anyone) does look into it, here's what to do.

Open up Tile Layer Pro (http://www.romhacks.net/tutorial_edit_graphics.php)
Load the CFC2 ROM file.
Edit->Goto (or just CTRL-G) and then put in A60C3 (Hex, Absolute)

You should then see the tiles used for the splash screen. You can use the "Tile Arranger" window to build the splash screen (kinda like a puzzle) and then edit each tile. The main issue is that tiles can be used multiple times to make a picture.

Example: /---\/-
That would only be made up of 3 tiles (/, -, \).

Anyway, that's the idea. If you try your hand at it, let us know how it went.

You don't have a PSP? Damn. :-( Well, myabe sometime you will get one, with custom firmware installed I know you would love it. So versatile.

If I wasn't flat freaking broke... I'd send you one! We seriously NEED a good NGPC emulator on PSP. It would be so nice to have.

Thanks for the sentiment. Yeah, I think I'd like working with the PSP. I kinda looked into used ones recently, but even those are spendy.

I'm thinking that it can't be too hard to get RACE running on PSP. I mean, it runs pretty much full speed on a GP32. The only problem to me is that I don't know anything about the PSP dev scene. I do know that it's a strong one, so it must be fairly developed with good tools and all.

Jeebus, that was a complicated mess when I opened it up. Dunno if Id be able to do it, I couldnt even find the start screen graphic in there.

Sorry :crying:

Heh. In an interesting twist, I may actually be getting a PSP soon. I found a guy that wants some stuff that I have and it looks like we might work out a trade. I'll let you know how it turns out. Though, this means I'll be even more busy with this junk. I'm already working on CFC2. I just started trying to fix some stuff on the Dreamcast port of RACE. There's always the DS version, and now a PSP version? Yow. I'll have to prioritize.

Well, it didn't take long. Kinda thanks to your post, I checked Craigslist. A guy offered to trade his PSP for some stuff. I had that stuff (laying around unused), so I just made the trade today. Now I gotta figure out all this firmware business and infiltrate the homebrew scene.

Well, RACE (and therefore CFC2) runs on the PSP now. There are some issues to work out, but it's running and it seems full speed.
