As the title says I keep hearing the same game titles cropping up as being good games and would like some input from you peeps.

Basically the three main ones I'm looking at are.

Katamari
Amplitude
Gitaroo Man

Just some personal feedback about the games-longevity, difficulty (I'm trying to get my 6yr old interested in other types of games than power rangers and disney spin-oof crap) and anything else you can think of.

There were only 3 PS2 games I beat:

-Haven: frustrating but has its moment, mish-mash of genres but mostly a 3D adventure... really decent if you give it a shot. I always enjoyed its atmosphere

-Castlevania LoI it was called? The 1st one. Alright. Wouldn't play through it a 2nd time however

-Rygar... One of the best 3D adventures I've played... just totally fun and addicting. Difficulty on the easy side but it's a blast all the way to the end

Never played those games he listed, but might as well recommend ones I played through.

You haven't played Katamari?

I think your six year old would probably love it.

It isn't difficult as you only use the two thumbsticks to control everything. There is some good replay value even after you beat it (I always tried to get a larger ball). The game is just fun and not serious. In fact, it doesn't really make much sense at all.

I wouldn't recommend tripping while playing, the game is fucked up enough as is.

Gitaroo Man is worth getting. I beat the regualr game, but once you get to master mode or whatever its called, it gets super hard. It's up there with Rez as far as cult classic music games. You won't be dissapointed.

Gitaroo Man is awesome. Real gem there. Only problem is, it can be hard...real hard. I sucked at it personally. I have a friend who is great at it though.

my son loves the gran turismo games (2, 3, and 4)...he started playing them when he was four, but he wasn't really any good until he was about six.

Gitaroo Man rocks, one of the few games that has a great original soundtrack that ISN'T by Square. It is fairly difficult, but still excellent.

Katamari is killer, and it might inspire your kid to pick up his/her room!

Is Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 & Digital Devil Saga 2 any good?

Katamari is good, but I wouldn't recommend the second one since the first one is better. I had Frequency, prequel to Ampliture, and I didn't like it. Hitting a note at the wrong time made portions of the song stop. Get DDR instead. Don't have Gitaroo Man since I play the guitar for real.

Everyone should try Katamari at least once...it's a lot of fun and is one of the more original games you'll ever try. The music and artistic style really put it over the top.

I heard some good things about both Gitaroo Man and Amplitude but haven't played them yet. Mebbe I'll head down to GameStop and get one of those reprints of GM.
Amplitude seems like it had too many lame songs for me to get into, but if the gameplay is really good it might be worth it.

Yes, Gitaroo Man is awesome. If you want to talk longevity, well its about 6 hours to clock it on normal difficulty if you get into the swing of things, and then the rest of your waking life to nail hard.
Yes, in Gitaroo Man, hard is HARD!

Amplitude is allright for a rhythm-action game but I found it a bit too 'dry' - in terms of presentation I mean. I only played it briefly but it seemed like it played a decent game, but as Guitar Hero has now surpassed it I dunno if I could go back.

As for my other recomendations, well I'm assuming you are looking for 'kids stuff that isnt licenced rubbish' for your 6-year old, in which case.....

Everybody's Golf: Plenty of courses both normal and special, traditional play mechanics and appealing graphics. Still plenty of depth for a golf game, but the presentation makes it easier for newbies to the genre to get into.
(Also Everybody's Tennis was just reviewed in Famitsu and got straight 8/10's wso it might be worth keeping an eye on that as it comes out in the US)

Ape Escape 2/3. Hardly earth-shattering platformers but lots of fun nontheless, and hey, they have monkeys in them. Everybody loves monkeys right! Seriously though, Ape Escape 2 should be dirt cheap right about now (if you can find it) and its a good bit of easygoing fun.
Other good/better platformers are - Klonoa 2, Ratchet series, Jak series, Sly series.
Jak 2 can be sod hard at times so if you want to narrow the selection down, that'd be the one to discard first.

If you want something completely 'out there' give the Gregory Horror Show game a whirl. Its the only 'Hotel-guest stalking simulator' I've ever come across. Dunno how much patience a 6-year old would have while playing it though.

I'm going to mention Ys: The Ark of Napishtim just for the hell of it. Its a very simple hackandslash action-RPG thats not too long (just over 20 hours). Can be a bit tough at the start if you dont take the time to level up, but after that I really got into it and had a lot of fun - even though the english voice-acting is rather.... bizzare.
It was the first RPG I played after taking a long break from the genre, and I found it to be the perfect (re)introduction game for me.

Oh yea, and get Ico too. If your kid dosent appreciate it now, put it away and make a note to yourself to gewt it back out again when they can.:D

You should know the whole "don't judge a game by its demo" thing. :kekeke:

But the game is a lot of fun once you get the controls down. It's one of the most intuitive schemes I've seen in quite awhile. It's definitely unique compared to the Bemani style gameplay. :)

On another note, is anyone a fan of War of the Monsters? I love the game and just picked it up recently again since I've almost never found it for a decent price in my area. :buttrock:

Katamari- Both games are excellent and innovative definately pick them up. I loved them both and they have decent replay especially #2 because you always want to best your last score to impress the peoplel.

Gitaroo Man- if you can find it buy it. It's pretty uncommon/rare, and it's a great find. The music is very tight and slick. The graphics are pretty nice as well, and the story though corny is pretty entertaining. There is only one bad song if you ask me, and I don't like if you pause you gotta restart the song, but it's small trade off for such an excellent piece.

amplitude- skip it get beatmania.
