The same could be said of all CCGs. But it's true, M:tG nerds are the worst kind of nerds.

La Magic; she is gone, no?

No more talking to random standers by, no more UFO catchers.

Not far enough in to know if there are any trading machines.

The Gem system doesn't do much for me except irritate me.
I end up discarding most cards just to build gems.

Some of the characters I don't recognize. Which I suppose is a good thing.

The art will take some getting used to.

And the story has some plot-holes big enough to drive a Peterbuilt through.

If you're after a game where you collect things and go through battles, you'd be much better off with Pokemon.

Not sure how Yu-gi-oh GX plays, but it may be a better choice as well.

Putting the horrid plot and translation aside. Looking past the retarded AI and the miserable balance which strongly encourages the used of one-cost cards. Even getting past the fact that the whole game is set in a boring tower that you can't even walk around in:

The game is glitched. There's a guy named Jon and the ninth floor. Don't talk to him after you beat him because his second dialog crashes the game. This means that in the new game plus where all the fighters use their second dialog, you will not be able to progress. Jon's on both sides of the 9th floor and you have to fight him to progress. You can not get all the cards in the US version. You can not complete the game. I've emailed SNK asking if they are going to do anything about this. I suggest everyone else does the same to put some pressure on them.

When Bubble Bobble DS (from what I hear a terrible game in its own right) had a game-breaking glitch, the publisher eventually sent out replacement copies to all those who asked. Here's hoping SNK does the same. Though I'm just about to give up all hope that they care about their fans.

SHIT! you are right. After I read your post I went to the 9th floor (Im on the capcom side right now) and Jon freezes the game before anyone speaks.

All these fucking push backs and we get no wi-fi AND a major fucking glitch???

I actually like this game a lot too. :crying: :very_ang:

You know my initial thought on this game was way premature. I'm enjoying it but at the same time I still don't like it. But I just can't put the damn thing down. I guess I am hoping that I can get some good cards to buy new ones that will be worth while. I've only beaten one leader so far.
And the only reason I did that he killed off his characters to hurt mine but then he couldnt get anymore characters in the ring. So I was sitting there hitting him without having to worry about retaliation.

Yeah AI is f'd up at times. One time he used a special attack on me that did 300dmg to every character on the field, it killed off all his characters but the one who did the attack. mine still survived. I did a full attack in which he couldn't defend. then i was just waiting for my next turn to come up. All my characters were left with 100 to 200 hp. He had 2 reds and one white being his only gems, in order to do the special again means he would have needed 2 reds and 2 whites. All he had to do was discard his one card he drew and he would had been able to save himself. no, he decides to put the card in force so he gets a third red gem which gave me the win.

All in all, i look at this like I looked at DOA4. I don't hate nor love the game, it's there, but I do enjoy what it provides. DOA4 wasn't an expansion on the gameplay of DOA3, but an expansion of DOA2. Only with CFC they aren't expanding from a previous build, they are just going a different way. I still enjoy the other two CFC games but I'm not hating DS (besides the bug that I hopefully don't have). I'm trying to get to level 9 as fast as possible so i can meet this "Jon".

damn the glitch is real...

well wrote SNK Playmore USA...hopefully enough people complain to get a fix going.

yeah I believe my opinion on the game more or less the same with everyone here.

-no rpg elements.
-the splitting of HP and BP kinda annoying.
-Card Costs...make it more like magic the gathering. (unless there are cards that output multiple color force)...forget about 5 color decks.
-getting CP instead of random cards makes re-fighting none boss characters pointless (why would I settle for 100 cp instead of 800cp)

also maybe I suck but does everybody's matches seem to last 10+ rounds on an average?

-no real point in this line...just commemorating my first non-trading forum post...thus my first REAL post.

Still can't put this game down though...unless the DS runs out of batteries.

I totally agree. I don't like the whole buying packs and getting money from enemies. Also why should i buy a random card (which of course I can shut off the ds if i don't like it w/o saving) for 300CP when i can buy a pack of 6 for 800CP.

I didn't really play the first CFC, i played CFC2. I miss the people who had special decks like one who was ninja only. I mean I'm on the SNK side of the floor and i'm facing against people who have some capcom cards in their deck. Also, I'm on Stage 4 but enemies on Stage 1 I go back to have the same cards I didn't see until stage 3. It's really awkward, yet I can't put the game down.

BTW, I just ran into a BUTT card (From MoTW) and it says that if there are no cards in your hand it can't counter-attack. Apparently it applies to both players, the defender can't use him to counter-attack and if using him on offense the defender can't counter-attack him. I don't actually know if you can't counter-attack with him since I haven't had him appear in my draws yet.

Edit: I just sent my email to both techsupport@snkplaymoreusa.com and sales@snkplaymoreusa.com to inform them of the game-ending glitch, and reinform of the 90-day warranty on the last page of the manual that states:

90-day warranty said:
SNK PLAYMORE warrants to the original purchaser that this product is free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. . .If the product is found to be defective within the 90-day warranty period, SNK PLAYMORE agrees to repair or replace the product at its option free of charge.

Sorwah, that's a good bit of info about the warranty. Still, if I can get a refund from Gamecrazy where I bought mine, I'll do that. Even if the game weren't glitched, I can't enjoy it. The AI is so stupid it won't even attack me when I have little to no cards out. And the cards are so unbalanced to the point where the best deck has all one-cost cards in it with a few card-drawing cards. It's no fun getting new cards if I can already beat the snot out of everything. 90% of my matches involve playing all my guys as fast as I can and attacking every turn. It gets really boring.

Just take it back to Wal-mart without the receipt saying it's defective and broken, yadda yadda yadda.

Yes. No one I have seen has come forth claiming their copy works. It's highly unlikely that any English copies in circulation will be without the glitch. If there's a Europe release, it will probably be fixed.

"dead" is right i guess.

Anyways, I don't know why i continue to play this game knowing i can't beat it. and if it's replaceable by SNKP I'll lose my game data anyways.

bugger.

Bah,
I went to snkplaymoreusa's forums and no one thus far has reported the Level 9 glitch.

Have you guys played through to floor 9, or gone straight to it?
Does that make any difference?

Next chance I get, I'm going as far up in the levels as I can to try out the glitch myself.
I'm stuck on level 2....:emb:

Man, Co's QA departments are falling off.

In 25 years of gaming, I've only noticed/heard of game-breaking bugs in recent games such as:

Lego Star Wars the original Trilogy PS2
Card Fighters DS
Puzzle Quest PSP

Don't forget Bubble Bobble DS and Lord of the Rings GBA and I'm sure a dozen more. Seems like most are for portable systems. Hmmm.

I mostly agree with people on the proper strats, but my games last about 3 turns on average with 2 turns being somewhat frequent. I'm big on the discount characters, but i also have some powerhouses that I put in there to deal with random stuff or get deployed by the cheaper "force battery" type characters. I only have 1 card that lets me draw more cards, but I hardly use it...just bad hand insurance to me. I can imagine some counters to it, but with the current pool of cards that I'm pulling from, but a counter deck would only win maybe 20% of the time...

Seperating the BP from the HP is a great move, in theory...the problems with the balance is more a function of the cards, rather than the system. Still I think it's no more broken than CFC was-- its just that the system makes broken easily attainable in a weekend of vigorous play...my CFC deck was more or less invincible with (triple krauser, yashiro, akuma, yamazaki, etc.) and I usually won in 3-5 turns there too, but it took much longer to aquire the right cards than it does on DS.

One of the nastiest things I've come across is mudman's ability to give you 10 force if you spend your last force activating his power. I've done 1800 damage turn 2 by having mudman let me deploy high cost cards on turn one... So, yeah, low cost is where its at and fusions don't even play a major part unless someone can survive the rush. :oh_no: My deck is mainly red and white with some green and blue thrown in (Mia Fey and ton pooh are SO broken...). Raizo could also be the key to a good rushing deck if you could get enough green to deploy some characters then activate them with his ability on the first turn in a reliable manner. Uncounterable Butt works petty well too, especially if you can get him some buffs first...

My mini-review would be that it's a fun game, but it's not really a sequel to the NGPC games...All the mispellings and confusing of Ryu and Ryo just drive home the point that this isn't the old SNK. If you're willing to put in the effort to remember what the cards really do, you're not really looking for an epic tale of card playing, and you don't play these types of games very often then the game's worth a look...doubly so if you have people to play multiplayer against.

Finally passed the second floor and plan on ascending the SNK side.

It's not as fun as the NGPC versions, but it's an okay game.

Story is really unnecessary. You just need to collect cards and battle people.
Don't really need any more story than that.

Still miss the trading desks, machines, and UFO catchers.

It may take me a few days depending on if I go back to playing Pokemon to get to the Ninth floor.

Then, there's no real reason to continue playing if the game is just going to glitch out, right?

Pokemon it is then.

Let the Bidoof slaughter begin!!!

Kotaku just reported on it finally. And I heard some people say they were emailing joystiq.

People are trying to light a fire under SNKP's ass to get us working copies. I dont blame them. If I dont hear from them in a week I'll probably get my store to give me a cash refund as a defective.
