Hehehe, I was at an Audi dealer yesterday and knew someone would love this, hehe.

I didn't know the A4 had been restyled... it's more A5-ish than A3-ish now, looks good.

I was there for the R8 though ;)

I have to say, 986 is a pretty nice ride. Especially topless in great weather, of course.

;)

It's great indeed.

Design-wise, it isn't aging well though.

yeah but now that second or even thirdhand ones can be had for so cheap it's a great buy just the same. and it's not like the damn 944's of the 80's. it's morea true porsche with the endine mounted behind the driver.

You know what you guys, I was thinking about getting a Porsche Boxster - not a new one, but one of the earlier ones.

I have heard some bad things about the earlier ones though and I really don't fancy getting a lemon.

in fifth gear's last series they talked about the secondhand boxter and what to look for. i wish i could find the episode, but that week's prize was just that a boxteri 'll look for a torrent mate

personally i know with all porsches the timing chain is always an expensive issue.keep an eye out for that. and with the bozster specifically check the clutch. take it for a test drive and note when the clutch bites whether it's really low while pulling your foot off it or really high that is another issue and is a 500 quid operation if it's biting too high as too high means it's almost shot. i'll look for that episode they go into a lot more detail on the show.

98-2002ish, some claim past 2004.
the 3.4l engines. Used in boxters and Carrera's.

-crankshaft blowouts
-seal issues. Not the Rear Main Seal issue, that was recalled. Coolant in the engine oil kinda issues.

Renntech forums claim up to 20% of the engines are failures. $12k for crate drop-in replacement. Some britsh forums claimed all engines would fail, it would just be a matter of when.....

There are people on the other side of the fence that say it's just over exposure, and the engines will last well over 100k with regular maintenance. But most dealership mechanics will say at least 10%

I always hate when people switch back and forth between using a Porsche's more common name and using the type numbers.

Boxter=986
911 Turbo=930

i put new shocks on the front of the caprice. i had to cut the top of off one of the old ones. only being able to turn the nut 1/4 turn before taking the wrench off was getting old fast. i need ratchet wrenches. or just more sawzall blades.:smirk:

the front sway bar is cracked completely at one of the bends. couldnt believe it. that would explain the massive amounts of body roll. gotta pick up a new one and some bushings and endlinks soon.

i didnt get to the back today, ill probably get that done saturday, and hopefully have the new sway bar by then too.

im debating wether or not i need to replace the springs. do springs wear out? i wouldnt mind getting some progressive rates, but itll be some $$. airbags would be cool too. i'd really like to get a stiffer ride without having to lower it.

after that i just gotta fix the windshield it has a leak. and the driver's door needs weatherstripping. after that its just misc little stuff that needs some attention. cant wait to paint it one of these days.

LOL, reminds me of the late 20s guy who bought my Civic. He never called it by the name Civic and constantly referred to it as EG.
