dammit mushiki if i've ever wanted a tea set in my life it's now!

I have to say, 986 is a pretty nice ride. Especially topless in great weather, of course.

It's great indeed.
Design-wise, it isn't aging well though.
You know what you guys, I was thinking about getting a Porsche Boxster - not a new one, but one of the earlier ones.
I have heard some bad things about the earlier ones though and I really don't fancy getting a lemon.

yeah i'm looking at 911's now. and im paranoid about the engine failure gossip.
i need a porsche mechanic to give it to me straight...
98-2002ish, some claim past 2004.
the 3.4l engines. Used in boxters and Carrera's.
-crankshaft blowouts
-seal issues. Not the Rear Main Seal issue, that was recalled. Coolant in the engine oil kinda issues.
Renntech forums claim up to 20% of the engines are failures. $12k for crate drop-in replacement. Some britsh forums claimed all engines would fail, it would just be a matter of when.....
There are people on the other side of the fence that say it's just over exposure, and the engines will last well over 100k with regular maintenance. But most dealership mechanics will say at least 10%

I always hate when people switch back and forth between using a Porsche's more common name and using the type numbers.
Boxter=986
911 Turbo=930
