I checked by a local arcade system/pinball reseller in Richmond, VA called "Games People Play" today and the guy there told me that a used Single Slot MVS Upright System with NO game would cost $1500. Basically, it breaks out like this:

$350 for one-slot kit
$500 for 19 inch monitor
$650 for upright cabinet

The one that he showed me did not work and had been terribly abused. He said that it is very popular unit for the home arcade player. For each addition slot up to 4 he said to add another $150 for each slot but that he recommended a 1 slot configuration because those were the best.

I left the store completely disgusted.

Is this just a little insane or what? <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

What a rip off. Buy a neo candy. Mine was $580 and included a 1 slot board, 29" monitor, 3 MVS games, and freight and shipping. Let him try and get $1500 for it. He'll be waiting a real long time.

Sounds like the classic case of the Arcade Operator/Distributor over inflating their games. They hear that so and so got so much for it and then want that much for it.

I wonder if the seller's previous job was selling used cars?

That's a terrific price. I asked him about the Candy and he'd never heard of such a thing. The scary thing is that some people (people with too much money and no knowledge about the stuff) buy 'em for their kids or to to them in their game room will pay outrangeous prices and he'll probably eventually get that price from some unsuspecting fool.

LOL! I wouldn't doubt it. Hey, check out this low mileage baby, it's loaded and was only played by a little old lady on Sundays after church.

Yeah I sold a Trash Rally MVS once for 230$ to a yuppy. He was a complete fool and wanted a racing game and so he was willing to pay 230$ for it. And if people are really rich and stupid, I won't care if they wanted to pay that ammount for such a cheap old game.

I had an arcade distributor offer me $2K for my cabinet... they make a ton of money on location and that it why they can still charge that much... But no reputable arcade sells a cab and monitor seperate. And I hate to break it to you, but a refreshed 19" monitor with new caps and fly back would be under $150, there is no way in hell that would cost that much. The guy thought you didn't know how much these things cost... and he was trying to take advantage of you. Offer him $500 and tell him you want it rewired and touched up, if he doesn't take it tell him you are well overpaying as it is for a beat up cab... just for your info here is the breakdown

New One Slot MVS board about $200(used even cheaper).

Cabinet with 25 monitor about $350 - $500

For a pristine Neo Geo one slot the max you should pay is $700, and you are paying over at that price... for a machine in good condition $500-$550 is target price.

Hope that helps,

-Nick

Thanks for the great information. I'm looking for a setup in or around the price that you are specifying.

Now I wish that I had gone ahead and bidder more on a working 19 inch upright 1 slot that I saw last year at a RARE video game auction in my area. It went for around $480 or something like that and was being sold as is. It did show a lot a wear. What kept me from doing it was due to the hard to see video display, you'd could barely see it.

I'll keep a lookout for one. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

About the Trash Rally, yest it was 230$ for just the cart. Normally I won't really ripoff people, but this guy was just a stupid bastard which was hanging on his mobilephone at least 24 hours a day and didn't know how to spend his money, so I said he could get it for 230$ and he said that's ok.

Sounds to me like he deserved it. This reminds me of a story that happened to me relating to and old Packard Bell PC I was getting ready to junk or sell for cheap. I had it up and running in my game room. Someone from work dropped by my house and brought their husband along. He say this thing running and wanted to buy it. I said that you really do not want this system. It cannot run Windows 3.X. It only had 640kb and EGA graphics with cheap "hard card" and no sound card. He insited and became quite irritating. I said, fine! I'll let it go for $900 as is with no "tech support." He said "deal" and wrote me a check. The same guy then proceded to my garage and started bidding on stuff in there, including a pair of old stereo speakers that had seen better days. He bought those too. LOL! I don't think I ever saw him again.

Sometimes people just have too much money I guess.

Isn't that how you originally bought it? I have never known Packard Bells to have "tech support".

LOL! Ain't that the truth. Now that you mention it, when I bought it new the DOS Diskettes were unreadable and they refused to replace them. Fortunately, Price Club allowed me to make copies of their DOS Diskettes from the demo unit on display. Still, my original diskettes never worked nore could I get replacements from Packard Bell.
