the playing field has been leveled

voted avp. I am actually really happy with the choices this month. Die hard and TiT, while not getting as much love are both very interesting nominees. Aesthetically, Die Hard didn't age well, and the gameplay can be a bit choppy too, but the use of weapons and quick time events adds to the fun for me. Also one of the things I like about the turtles games (outside of nostalgia) is that the score is actually just a tally of enemies killed, which from a competition standpoint would make for some interesting "low" scores.

*crosses fingers for Mutation Nation to resume lead.

Yes, I -do- know AvP is a better game, but I don't have that. I'd actually participate, this time!

yep , neither did Turtles, repetitive as hell....

I have to agree with that. I think it's a great game that's better served in small doses. It's one of those games that you play a couple of times and then you don't want to look at it for 6 months. I can't imagine devoting a month to it. I'd probably get 2 or 3 runs in before grabbing my AvP board :)

I´m not saying you should vote for AvP

But you should vote for

Between playing Mutation Nation and scouring the net for creepy images, you must not have time for much else.

Considering the last two months were anything BUT mediocre, and the participants could be counted on one hand without using all the fingers...

I dunno...you guys want good games, but you don't actually play when they're up? Makes me think you don't want good, but familiar...ie, the same ol' same ol'. That rather defeats the purpose of what this was supposed to be about...picking up new games that you might not have tried and giving them a good run through with discussion along the way. Who the hell HASN'T played AvP?? At least in my opinion, that's exactly *why* it hasn't come up yet...

I would have to agree with whisper on that one. I'd rather have Mutation Nation with 10 participants than AvP with only 3 or 4. The last couple of months have been disappointing in terms of the turnout so I would gladly play MN to avoid that.

Further to that, I don't think people should vote unless they fully intend on participating should their pick be selected. If 10 people vote for AvP and it wins, there's no reason why anything less than 10 people should be participating.

Most definitely agree. Which is why I actually voted this time. I have every intention of playing!

This should be a rule of these threads...vote and play, else don't vote. Simples.

Starting to look like we´re in for some mutation nation. I´m hoping though that AvP will be in next months voting too :)

My 25 cents.

1. Every month has a weak turn out.
2. The number of voters for a game equating to the number of participants for the game is unrealistic.
3. Most members prefer the familiar over the unfamiliar.
4. Most members will vote on a game they own (understandable)
5. Most members will set a poll based only on games they own (kind of weak, but I get it)
6. A games scoring merits/difficulty/competition-appropriate nature are rarely considered when chosen as candidates.

I don't think any of this is going to change. I accept all of the shitty unavoidable stuff regarding the BUMP of the month club. It's still fun.

IMO the ultimate equalizer would be if this forum was more emulation oriented than "I gotta make use of my sick stuff/set up" oriented.

The people on Shmups STGT don't base their candidates on whether they own the pcb or not right? And this is coming from someone who never/rarely emulates.

1) True. Just would like to see differently. A pipe dream, possibly, but it would still be nice.
2) Also true. No real disagreement with this, it is what it is.
3) Agreed, though the original idea for the club (as far as I understood it) *was* specifically to get away from that and venture into 'the unknown' so to speak.
4) Agreed, and understandable. However...
5) Also agreed, and also, however...

Far as I know, emulation was never tossed out as an option, and has in fact been advertised as a viable alternative each month in order to allow (and attract) more people to play. Those who I've approached on an individual basis that had previously expressed interest in participating in any given month invariably all still required assurances that emulation was 'ok'. And even then...the turnouts are still poo. *shrugs* I enjoy playing these games, so I'll still be giving it a go each month, I just wish more would join the few of us that do, by hook or by crook...hardware or emulation. The more the merrier, honestly.

I had a damn good reason for not playing last month, not everyone has an AW mobo, and I have never gotten atomiswave emulation to work, not even with the new Naomi netboot version, not one AW game has ever worked for me. so when that got voted I didn't even bother looking in the thread.
