Important cultural pastime or needlessly cruel bloodsport?

Worse than hunting for fun, better, or no difference?

Lisa: "Bullfighting is a cruel, bloody psuedo-sport!"

Homer: Lisa's right! It is a COOL, BLOODY SUPER SPORT!!!"

I never had any interest but Hemingway loved it, so I figure there must be something there.

If it was bull wrestling, then they'd have something.

But, yeah, dodging a charging bull several times and then stabbing it with a sword doesn't do anything for me...but I do love the charging bulls in Laurence Blood's stage.

Who gaf about that dead drunk
I have a feeling you'd like his work more than you think. Maybe his Nick Adams stories, which have been collected a number of times. But also The Sun Also Rises. Stars a disillusioned US expat kind of drifting around and day drinking.

I probably wouldn't have even read that book, except I happened to flip to the first page while browsing a bookstore back when those were a thing. One of the opening lines on page 1 caught my eye, made me laugh, and the oddness of it as a novel's opening was enough to make me buy the book.

I still remember that line. "I mistrust all frank and simple people, especially when their stories hold together." It's a fucking fantastic novel. It's in my top 3, no question.

I am a big fan of his work. But not the man. He was way too tryhard.

That's gotta be a record for ninja editing and still quoting the edited part.

By the time the bull reaches the ring it's already lost a lot of blood.

It's not a sport.
